Penn said a TPG/Vodafone merger would bring the local telecommunications market into line with most other developed economies where there are only three companies offering 80 to 90 per cent of mobile and broadband services. TPG, which has about 25 per cent market share for NBN broadband services, had planned to make an aggressive entry into the mobile market next month. Ahead of that launch the market had sold off Telstra shares in anticipation of a squeeze on its mobile profit margins. That' s a clear indication from the market of the potential growth in profitability when the mobile and broadband markets revert to three dominant companies &ndash Telstra, Optus and TPG/Vodafone. |
