Gilead Covid-19 drug may exceed US$2b in sales, Piper says [CALIFORNIA] At US$4,500 for a round of treatment for Covid-19, remdesivir, Gilead Sciences' new medicine could be reasonably priced and still generate over US$2 billion in revenue for the biotech, according to analysts at Piper Sandler. That' s the maximum price that the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) recommended for a 10-day treatment of Gilead' s remdesivir, which received emergency approval from US regulators on Friday. Gilead has so far been quiet on its pricing plans and didn' t immediately respond to e-mailed requests for comment. When you are talking about saving a life, that US$4,500 " seems really reasonable," Piper Sandler' s Tyler Van Buren said in a phone call. Even after a promise to give away the first 1.5 million vials, the drug could generate more than US$2 billion in sales by the end of the year based on that price tag, Mr Van Buren said. He doesn' t expect Gilead to disclose pricing until after the donated supply has been used up. And " several billion in sales are easily achievable" with the number of hospitalised Covid-19 patients remaining high for the foreseeable future. A number of Wall Street analysts have been getting more cautious on Gilead' s ability to make a profit from remdesivir amid the pandemic, spurring several downgrades last week. The Food and Drug Administration clearance followed results from a US-led study suggesting the drug shortened hospital stays, conflicting with results from China that showed remdesivir had no effect on preventing deaths. At US$4,500 per patient, remdesivir " would have a gross margin and overall profit contribution that is below the company' s other products, but not highly dilutive to the company' s future profitability outlook," Leerink' s Geoffrey Porges wrote in a note to clients Monday. ICER' s estimate rests on remdesivir showing a mortality benefit. The nonprofit agency said if the company is looking to simply recover the costs of producing it, a 10-day treatment regimen should cost about US$10. That figure doesn' t include the cost of research and development as remdesivir was previously developed for hepatitis C, ICER said. Gilead is no stranger to drug-pricing debates after political scrutiny over the price of its HIV medicines. The company has said it may spend US$1 billion on remdesivir this year. The stock was up as much as 2.3 per cent in early US trading Monday. |

Hopeless. If you know how many companies have been approved by FDA for emergency use, you would want to be the first to sell tomorrow! Remain in ShOrt position. | ||||

They are not leading and also do not know how to use antibody test. Actually nobody knows ...
The hype there is purely due to FDA's decision to allow any company to sell antibody tests in the country without prior review by the agency.

So far, SG govt have yet to figure out how serology testing can implemented at a larger scale for a person demonstrate immunity and be able to return to work. Currently, its only used to connect links to existing clusters. PCR on the other hand, is only used to test for confirmed cases... My guess is that the true value of serology quick test kits in mass testing can only be known when circuit breaker can be lifted. So have to wait and see US on the other hand, can' t wait to end their lockdown so perhaps that' s why they are taking the leading the world in antibody test kit sales.

The other 2 test kid in Cardinal taking longer turnaround time compare to bio. Biolidics: https://www.cardinalhealth.com/en/cmp/ext/med/med-lab/aytu-covid-19-igm-igg-rapid-test-cassette.html  Read the results within 10 minutes of incubation  (it is 2 - 10 mins in other sources) Others: https://www.cardinalhealth.com/en/cmp/ext/med/med-lab/covisure-covid-19-igm-igg-rapid-test.html    Not valid before 15 minutes or after 20 minutes https://www.cardinalhealth.com/en/cmp/ext/med/med-lab/cellex-covid-19-igm-igg-rapid-test.html  15-20 minutes, results are not valid after 20 minutes

Channelnewsasia - 4th May 2020 Minister Gan Kim Yong: TESTING  CAPACITY To date, Singapore has conducted more than 140,000 tests for COVID-19, which works out to 2,500 tests per 100,000 people in Singapore, said Mr Gan. Responding to Members of Parliament who asked about the different tests available, the Health Minister said  Singapore uses mainly the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test to detect confirmed COVID-19 cases. PCR tests work  by detecting the virus RNA from a nose or throat swab, and is the gold standard for detecting current infection, Mr Gan explained. PCR testing is done to diagnose suspect cases to provide early treatment and isolate close contacts, as well as to do screening and active case finding of individuals at risk, such as migrant workers moved from their dormitories before they return to work. This kind of testing is also used in conducting surveillance to monitor undetected cases in the community. Currently, Singapore has the capacity to conduct more than 8,000 PCR tests a day,  up from 2,900 a day in early April. Authorities are working with various private and public sector partners to further increase the  testing capacity  to up to 40,000 a day by later this year. " With this increase, we will widen the net that we cast for diagnostic testing for symptomatic cases, active case finding, screening and surveillance testing in our community and among workers, including migrant workers," said Mr Gan. &ldquo We will also do more testing and monitoring to pick out asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic cases among priority groups such as nursing home residents and staff, to prevent clusters from developing. Testing is crucial as risk of infection will increase when we allow more economic and social activities to resume." |
