This regular dividend can partly help maintain your livehood. As long as the distribution policy remain 100%, this is really good for investment opportunity.

HPH Trust' s distribution policy is to distribute 100% of its distributable income to its Unitholders, being the cash received by the Trust net of expenses which include without limitation, operation expenses, repayment of principal amounts under any debt of HPH Trust and payment of interest or any other financing expense. HPH Trust has not changed its distribution policy since its listing in 2011.

HPH Trust' s distribution is a reflection of the available cash flow from its operations. The Board has put in place a prudent financial policy to manage debt level and finance costs and has since 2017 embarked on a debt repayment program to repay HK$1 billion per annum.

Refer to annual report for several years under review until 2019, the annual depreciation and amortization expenses amount to about HK $3 billion dollars. This non-cash item will be adjusted by adding back to cash received by the Trust net of expenses for the purpose of DPU. Meanwhile, NAV is reduced by this item amount by way of capital distribution. 

Mainly emphasising on huge amounts, let' s say Annual Depreciation and Amortization expenses of HK $3 Billion Dollars minus HK $1 billion debt repayment/8.7 billion units = 23 HK cents per unit/5,7 = 4 Sgd cents. 

For  deemed approx. 30% to unitholders, then DPU worth is 1.2 Sgd cents per year.  (4 Sgd cents x 30%) while deemed approx. 70% to controlling interest, this is, HPH Ports Holding Ltd.

Last 1st H dividend of 0.8 Sgd  cents included 0.6 Sgd cents (1.2 Sgd cents/2 H per year)

Unlike most REITS, their properties are not subject to depreciation and amortization.
