CNBC NEWS. U.S. OIL CLOSED ABOVE $50 DOLLARS Brent crude was up 86 cents at $51.41 a barrel, having hit an intraday peak of $51.30 earlier in the day, highest since October. U.S. crude settled 1.4% higher, or 67 cents, at $50.36 a barrel, posting its first closing above $50 since late July. Both Brent and WTI have almost doubled in value since winter, they hit their lowest since 2003. * U.S. oil prices continued their climb on Tues, as expectations of U.S. crude draws underpinned a mkt already worried about potential supply shortages from attacks on Nigeria' s oil industry. Crude oil rallied over past two sessions after rebels in Nigeria' s Niger Delta Africa' s biggest producer turning out 2mil barrels per day (bpd). BREAKING NEWS: Dow tops 18K for first time since April energy rises 1.5% as oil climbs... Oil prices hit their highest levels in 8-mths on Tuesday, buoyed by a weaker dollar and falling Nigerian oil output after a spate of attacks on infrastructure. Brent crude was up 62 cents, or 1.2 percent, at $51.17 a barrel by 9:01 a.m. ET (1301 GMT), having hit an intraday peak of $51.30 earlier in the day, their highest since October. U.S. crude rose 61 cents to $50.30 a barrel, having touched a fresh 2016 peak of $50.37, their highest since October last year. " With Brent staying above $50, oil is on an upward momentum. French will restart their refineries that were shut on strikes and pipeline attacks in Nigeria." |
