ComfortDelGro Australia wins bid to operate bus services in Darwin
 
COMFORTDELGRO Australia (CDC) on Thursday (Jun 2) said its wholly-owned subsidiary CDC Darwin has won the Northern Territory Government tender for a 6-year contract to operate bus services in Darwin, Australia.
 
CDC Darwin will be the sole operator of public bus transport in Darwin, Palmerston, rural areas and special needs services in the region, CDC Australia said in a press statement.
 
It noted that the Darwin and urban service contract areas cover a &ldquo significant&rdquo part of the Northern Territory&rsquo s public transport network - 170 vehicles operate across more than 180 bus routes.
 
ComfortDelGro said its bus fleet size in Australia is currently about 2,800.
 
The new contract will start from Jul 1. CDC Australia will operate under its new CDC Northern Territory branding, replacing the existing Buslink branding. The transport operator plans to hire over 340 people and operate more than 210 buses in the Northern Territory.
 
CDC Australia will also operate reduced emissions buses, with 9 new Volvo hybrid buses used on urban routes in the contract period.
 
Alongside these new contract areas, CDC Australia also operates in the Alice Springs, Batchelor and Jabiru school services, which were awarded to CDC Australia entities in late 2021.

Hi, the math you did is not applicable. Accounting wise, it is based on which is known as ?going concern? principle. Thus the mentioned $4.955B assets is based on going concern principe whereby Comfortdelgro will operates in the foreseeable future. As such, valuation of assets are done on that basis.

If were to liquid everything now as per what you mentioned, it means the company is going liquidation and therefore, the mentioned assets are more likely to be liquid off into cash at a much more lower valuation.

Regardless, the angle you looking at is P/B ratio since you comparing current price / share against current book per share. For your information, based on the financials, ComfortDelGro has a P/B ratio of 1.17 meaning share price per share is more expensive the current book / share. This is contrary to your simple math.

Nevertheless, P/B ratio below 1 does not translate to a good bargain. That is why you do not see many companies going into privatization or acquired by other companies when their P/B ration fall below 1.0. You can see that there are companies (STI component) with a P/B ratio as low as 0.32

Although you said at the start is a ?simple math?, it is nonetheless misleading.

I am a chartered accountant and this is my 2-cents worth of opinion.

Did a simple math, with ComfortDelgro asset at 4.955B and total outstanding shares at 2.17B, if ComfortDelgro were to liquid off evefrything, the per share stands at around  $2.283.

Also the total debt was 618M but the cash and short term investments stands at 919.1M which could easily covered it.  Thus I look left loo right also cannot see any issues with ComfortDelgro what.  Furthermore, Singapore only started opening in April, so fast can see the benefits liao meh.  Thus, we need to see for at least one quater or two to really see the result of reopening.  At least the financials looks healthy.
