Sri Trang Gloves says it has 8% of the market for rubber gloves. Its relationship with its parent will stand it in good stead as the world clamors for surgical gloves. Sri Trang Gloves is assured a steady supply of natural rubber latex, since its parent owns some 7,200 hectares of rubber plantations throughout Thailand.

Malaysia-based Top Glove Corp. is the world' s largest maker of rubber gloves. It makes one of every five gloves worldwide, or 26% of world consumption, at 39 plants in Malaysia, as well as four production facilities in Thailand and one in China.

Top Glove said at the end of March that it had orders worth double its production capacity of 200 million natural and synthetic rubber gloves per day. As a result, Top Glove expects profits to surge 40% in the second half of its fiscal year, which ends in August.

The Thai company aims to take on Top Glove and make itself one of the top three manufacturers globally. CEO Jirojkul said the company will boost annual production by 18%, from the current capacity of 27 billion pieces to 32 billion by the end of this year. Top Glove has annual capacity of 74 billion pieces per year.
 

Sri Trang Gloves posted total revenue of 11.5 billion baht (US$356 million) for the year ended March 2019, up 10% from 2018. That led to a net profit of 1.1 billion baht (US$33.7 million).

That the company' s sales come from 130 different countries will aid it this year, but hurt it as the Thai baht proved the strongest currency in Asia in 2019. The Thai baht has lost 8% of its value against the U.S. dollar so far this year, a boon to exporters.
