Maybe the BBs think that it is better to play it safe to take some profits as anything can happen in Malaysia.
There might be a change of mind by politicians if it really generates enough jobs and tourism dollars for the upper stream and lower stream if they were to build a IR in JB. |

Its easier for the Thais, Indons, China to go to MBS and RWS without having to pay any casino levy, and to have far nicer amenities around them and facilities and the luxe factor, than Forest City. If it was JB, maybe a threat - but Forest City??? have you been there? Its far flung and even less accessible than Tuas.

Just my thoughts, if they have an IR in Forest City, their target plans will not only be Singaporeans, their targets will be Thais, Indonesians, ASEAN, East Asia like China. Maybe also part of tour package itinery of Malaysia. They would not be so short sighted as to just target Singaporeans only.

I really cannot see many players who would be willing to invest a couple billion dollars to build an IR or casino that would dent MBS and RWS in Forest City. It would not be LV Sands and Genting Group, and only other players are like MGM and the Ho family? The only clients would largely come from SG (what other big cities are around Forest City) and all SG needs to do is to lighten the casino levy, and that would hit visitors to the Forest City casino immediately. Foreigners would already have no entry levies into MBS and RWS, and they account for the lion share of visitors to MBS and RWS.

Also, all Singapore needs to do to marginalise this Forest City casino is to cut the casino levy to SGD50 or remove it altogether. No one will be going there anymore, after that.
