With this announcement by US, any war will be limited to within the Donbass / spill over within Ukrainian territory. Ukraine is on its own & the generals may want to cut loss and retreat. In the next 24 to 48 hours, we may expect the actual Russian Invasion into Donbass to begin. When that happens i expect a flurry of diplomatic activities to happen to stop a war to avoid a catastrophic defeat of the Ukraine army leading to the collapse of the Ukrainian gov. But if the Ukr generals decide to fight Russia, and are eventually defeated one way or another, whats left of the army will retreat to Kiev to protect the seat of the gov.

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Whatever is unfolding in Ukraine now bears text-book similarity with the Russia-Georgia war of 2008 that lasted for 5 days. Both involved former Soviet republics that wanted to join Nato, resisted by their pro-Russia separatist regions, eventually these regions were given recognition by Russia, and Russian Army moving in to enforce peace. Once Russia moved in, Nato stays out.  History has a way of repeating itself.    martin_shah      ( Date: 22-Feb-2022 19:37) Posted: IMO, now that Russia has recognised the 2 republics and signed defence agreements with them allowing Russian Peacekeepers to enter the territories, the big UNCERTAINTY surrounding the much-feared " Russian Invasion" dogging the headlines (& the markets in the last few weeks) has finally been removed. In reality, there is not much anyone can do about it now that " The Bear" has its two feet in the house. The West only listen/respect the language of the guns. Nato will not fight Russia over Ukraine. No country in Nato will. Russian military advances are years ahead of Nato. Once it lights up the S400 batteries, the entire Donbass is impenetrable.  Ukraine had 7 years to give full autonomy to Donestk & Lugansk agreed under the Minsk Treaty, that it signed with both of them in 2014. But Ukraine had no intention to fulfill the treaty and insist on taking them back by force. Russia is the most heavily sanctioned country next to North Korea & Iran. It has learnt to thrive in spite of the punitive sanctions. More sanctions are not going to hurt it. As a net energy exporter, as the #1 energy supplier to Ukraine and 2nd largest oil exporter to US, Russia is now reaping the benefits of high energy prices.
