x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Asia markets set for mixed open, after energy plays drag US Futures pointed to a mixed open for Asian stocks on Tuesday, after energy plays led to a decline in U.S. equities overnight. Australian SPI futures were down 0.5 percent at 5,211, compared to the benchmark ASX 200' s last close at 5,236.36 on Friday. The index was closed on Monday for the ANZAC day public holiday. Nikkei futures in Chicago were up 0.17 percent at 17,530, while Osaka futures were down 0.23 percent at 17,410. The Nikkei 225 finished at 17,439.30 in the previous session. Oil prices retreated overnight, with U.S. crude futures down 2.5 percent at $ 42.64 a barrel, while Brent fell 1.4 percent to $ 44.48. " The commodities rally appears to be taking a pause, which has seen equity markets pull back as the outperforming materials and energy sectors now begin to drag on indices," said Angus Nicholson, a market analyst at IG. Reuters cited market intelligence firm Genscape reporting that U.S. crude stockpiles at the Cushing, Oklahoma delivery point rose by over 1.5 million barrels in the week to April 22.

The Dow and S & P 500 hit peaks for 2016 last week as oil prices pushed higher, but oil prices fell Monday on renewed worries about abundant global supplies. The Federal Reserve will hold a policy meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday. It is unlikely to raise interest rates but may leave the door open for a rise at its next meeting in June. The Bank of Japan is due to release its statement on monetary policy Thursday.

The major data due on Monday are new home sales for March. The Bank of Japan is due to release its statement on monetary policy Thursday. European and Asian stock indexes traded lower on Monday as crude oil prices fell. Saudi Arabia, the de facto leader of OPEC, is expected to announce a plan later on Monday to diversify its economy away from oil production. U.S. crude oil futures turned higher to trade near $ 43.85 a barrel as of 8:41 a.m. ET. The Federal Reserve will hold a policy meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday. It is unlikely to raise interest rates but may leave the door open for a rise at its next meeting in June. " In total, we expect the Fed to hike rates three times this year, to a range of 1.00 percent to 1.25 percent at year-end, as officials switch their focus from downside global risks to rising core inflation," economist Paul Ashworth said in a note from Capital Economics on Friday.

Low volume is often a problem in the local stock market and so it was the case again when a paltry 864 million units worth S $ 820 million were traded, down from Friday' s S $ 1 billion. Other than volatile oil prices - although oil actually rose on Monday - and a soft day for Hong Kong, China and the Dow futures, there were no other readily apparent reasons for the selling here. At 5pm, the Dow futures traded 70 points in the red however, because the STI bounced more than 10 points off its intraday low just before 5pm, some traders thought Wall Street may not weaken by as much as initially thought. Observers also said that they thought the sharp rise of the previous fortnight had been due to hurried short-covering triggered by a rebound in oil from US $ 30 to US $ 40 per barrel, and now that this has run its course, weakness is to be expected .

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Asia markets fall across the board, as central bank decisions eyed Most Asian markets lost ground on Monday, with many traders likely taking to the sidelines ahead of several central bank decisions this week. The US Federal Reserve, the Bank of Japan (BOJ) and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) are all set to meet this week. Stephen Innes, a senior trader at OANDA Asia Pacific said, " while most of the focus will center on possible policy action from the BOJ, traders will be looking for forward guidance both from the Fed and RBNZ. " Innes predicts a " very bumpy ride" ahead this week. " There are now reports that the BOJ could introduce negative lending rates to complement negative deposit rates," Lien said in a note Friday. " With the Japanese economy struggling under the weight of a strong yen and slower global growth and speculators holding a record amount of long yen positions, the chance of easing by the BOJ is high. " The Japanese central bank is set to meet and announce its monetary policy decision this week, with half the analysts polled by Reuters expecting further easing. Market watchers also expect the Fed to stand pat at this week' s policy meeting, but Innes said traders will be watching the accompanying statement closely. " Currently, the market is at odds with the Fed' s anticipated trajectory, with traders only pricing in one rate hike in 2016 versus the Fed' s guidance suggesting two rate hikes. " Oil prices retreated during Asian hours, with U.S. crude futures down 0.75 percent at $ 43.40, while global benchmark Brent fell 0.60 percent to $ 44.84 a barrel as of 3:20 p.m. HK / SIN. Investors will be watching news out of Saudi Arabia, the de-facto leader of OPEC, as the country' s 30-year-old deputy crown prince is expected to lay out his " vision" to diversify the Saudi economy, making it less dependent on oil and better able to employ its citizens. Front-month Brent crude futures were trading at US $ 44.66 per barrel at 0043 GMT, down 45 US cents, or one per cent, from their last settlement. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures were down around half a US dollar, or 1.2 per cent, at US $ 43.22 a barrel. Analysts said the price drops were largely a result of cashing in after three weeks of rising prices.

Hang Seng Index futures are down 0.6% before the spot market opens, mirroring the downbeat sentiment in major Asia-Pacific stock markets, as the Nikkei Stock Average slips 0.6 % and Korea' s Kospi drops 0.1%.   Traders are watching to see if the Bank of Japan will announce a stimulus package Thursday that could include adopting negative interest rates on some loans to financial institutions.   The Federal Reserve will also wrap up a policy meeting during early Asian hours Thursday, though an interest-rate increase is highly unlikely. Both central bank meetings have implications for Hong Kong because easing measures in Japan could restore some confidence to investors that authorities are trying harder to boost economic growth, helping investor sentiment in the region, and because signals of a tighter rate policy in the UScould impact borrowing costs in this city, where the currency is pegged to the US dollar.
