I attribute this to lack of knowledge and typical Asian culture. Most shareholders are quiet and obedient (typical Asian culture). Directors are appointed by shareholders to run the business in our interests, not in their (Directors') interests of high directors' remuneration. Most directors do NOT even own shares of the business they are running (what a joke haha). There are examples in America where minority shareholders collectively effect the management policy and decision. As long we voice out and let them know they are our "stewards", there will be some impact. Unless they think they are capable like Berkshire Hathaway in which they can compound the earnings by not distributing dividends, then that is a different matter. But of course, if they have the right reason for not increasing the dividend in which it will lead to higher earnings (higher than current interest environment), then it is justifiable.

Most companies just deal with the AGM day and move on but it really needs to be beyond a one-day affair if there is a push for greater shareholder value creation. Great Eastern is a good e.g. where there was sufficient retail noise over the months and that catalyzed the action from OCBC with the offer

I would love to. But the fact is AGM is an annual affair and the next one is next year. Do you have any other suggestions where shareholders can voice out? Thanks for sharing if you have.

More important to go to the AGM and voice out to Mr Lim in his face in front of thousands of people and analysts.  Write email, no use.

There is probably a deep set market impression that supporting minority shareholder interest is not a priority at all for the company, nor do they really care about the poor performing share prices.  Paying higher dividends are also not a priority - and suggests that paying Directors and Management well is a priority instead, or at least this is what the market may be thinking.

The Chairman, Mr Lim Kok Thay, himself owns around 52% of the business. He has more to lose than us and vice versa (more to gain than us too). I think when we shareholders (you and me) collectively raise up the matter of raising dividend payout and or SBB (COLLECTIVELY I emphasised again), the management will have to listen to us. Otherwise, they must give us their valid reasons why so and we then need to make our own judgment. Because end of the day, shareholders are the ultimate owners of the business itself, not the directors. The management (ie directors) are people running for us. I urge everyone to write to them at [email protected]

Based on my experience, most brokerages have a cap quantity for each buy or sell transaction either at 500,000 or 1mil shares. Therefore if you sell a huge quantity, it will go down and eat into the lower buy queues and sometimes resulting in your orders becoming in the sell queue for people to buy up, thus becoming what you mentioned. Long story short, end of the day the numbers reflected are correct.

Thanks Mark, I understand what you have said. But sometimes these figures aren' t genuine. example, 5mil shares dump to 4mil buy queue. By right it would be 4mil sold to buyer, but at times it was show as 2mil each bought from seller and sold to buyer with the balance 1mil at sell queue.

Hi, as for buy and sell volume, what Rocksolid explained is correct. simple to say: buy volume=trade by ASK price, Sell Volume=trade by BID price.

Both instances were when someone transacted huge volumes. Normally if small amount, then it would show bought from seller if i buy from sell queue, and sold to buyer if i sell to buy queue..

Bro, correct me if I' m wrong. This is what i have noticed ages ago. sometimes, when a seller dump shares to buy queue, it would be reflected as bought from seller and not sold to buyer, also when a buyer buy up from seller, it was shown as sold to buyer and not bought from seller...

Warren Buffett said - Wall Street is the only place that people ride to in a Rolls Royce to get advice from those who take the subway. When you buy shares, think of it as buying a piece of a business. Rest just ignore. Provided you know what you're buying haha

Thanks for sharing. Other than Dividends or SBB which may push up a little bit, which is the main reason for decline recently?  does anyone know who is a most recognized stock analyst and his expectation for GentS?

Maybe you too can express your thoughts by writing an email to them ([email protected]) too. I'm sure when there are a significant number of shareholders voicing out, management will do something. A single wooden stick is brittle and fragile whereas a bunch of sticks bundled together is almost unbreakable. I'm a businessman, I know that. When one investor makes noise, I hardly hear him or her. When a lot of them make noise, I have no choice but to hear them out. It is always like this.

I am cognizant. But without BBs support, the short covering at this juncture won' t be able to propel the price above $1. Thus, it is paramount that Genting increase the dividend in light of their massive profits. The increase will bring in more investors. Thus, more $$$ for Genting to fund their expansion without having to loan.

Avg 0.875 fully loaded as at 19th June. I am still continuing to buy when it's below that price, thus current avg is slightly below 0.875. With a business having no debt and a huge cash pile of SGD 3.6 BILLION earning interest income which is significant (no-brainer because $3.6B is huge thus interest income will be significant. Imagine you put $3.6B into US treasury bills and or senior secured bonds, rest is arithmetic. Do the maths and you can see the interest income is huge.)

When you decipher the data, you can see that majority volume are still buyers ie you take the daily sell volume and subtract the short-sell volume. Take this figure and compare with the daily buy volume, and you'll see that end of the day the net result is buyer's volume greater than seller's volume. The reason I subtract short-sell volume is to have an idea of real seller's volume. When you do this, you can see much clearer and sleep soundly at night.

Yes they did. Apparently one voice insufficient. Anyway what I'm going to say now only the businessmen will understand. A great majority of businesses (ie companies) have debts. Businesses with no debts are rare because no debts mean literally it cannot go under water. Genting Singapore is one business with no debt. It is like a "cash generating machine" if you know what I mean. Apparently its shares are being short-sell everyday. 40% to 50% of each day's trading volume is attributed to short-selling. Information is all in SGX short-sell data. At least, we know it is not being sold by institutions or real investors. It is being short-sold by speculators ie the market "gamblers". I see this as a good thing because the short-sell volume is huge. When they need to cover their shorts, it will drive up the share price.
