IMHO, I think China is sored with our present leaders using the phrase " go by international laws" is mounting to taking side with USA. Our present spore leaders should stop at " South China Sea is one of the &ldquo vital arteries&rdquo linking Singapore to the world, thus it was important to Singapore that disputes in the South China Sea do not affect freedom of navigation or overflight by ships or aircraft&rdquo . That is why I said our present spore leaders must speak carefully and do not speak brashly or else keep qiuet, mai kay kiang. So China is picking bones from eggs! 1) First bone is the TPP issue. China did not surface this when our LKY is arround because of " Kam Cheng" . 2) Second bone is The Terrex issue. China takes the opporunity to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. China pointed out that the recently detained shipment of SAF' s vehicles showed that the city-state did not keep its word on 1-China principle by not suspending bilateral military cooperation with Taiwan. China asked spore to go by HK laws is taking a dig at spore. This given them an opportunity to tighten on Taiwan as DPP is hostile to China. 3) Hope that China will not pick a third bone, otherwise Spore will be in deep trouble as Trump also does not like spore.

Long term I don't think significant impact. Terrex is not like carrier or jet fighters. In a war, you likely will lose a few to enemy anyway.

Price action hasn' t moved though so nothing on deal is confirmed. How big is the Terrex deal in terms of percentage of all deals secured for the fiscal year? Anyone knows? |

i agree our governbment stance should NOT be so ' pro-US' . Tharman recently said its " Crucial for Singapore to diversify its relationships under global uncertainty." I agree fifty percent of it. i think its crucial for Singapore to diversify its relationships under ALL CIRCUMSTANCES. |

Our neighboura are leaning towards China, even the Philippines who brought China to court over the South China Sea issues and a very long time ally and former colony of USA. Now Trump is president and UK accupied with Brexit, we are increasily being isolated geopolitically. We should like what LKY said in one of the interview, 识 时 务 . Things have changed. China has come of age and have learned and excellenced in the things we have taught them. We are no longer that useful to them. It is time for them to teach us a lesson for being a constant source of annoyance to them, over Taiwan, South China Seas Comments (when the philippines is wisely keeping quite) and our pro west stand. We should significantly change our foreign policies and be more flexible. 识 时 务 。 | ||||

BEIJING: China' s Foreign Ministry said on Monday (Nov 28) that it had lodged a protest with Singapore after the city-state' s armoured troop carriers were seized by Hong Kong customs en route from Taiwan last Wednesday. Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang made the comment at a regular press briefing. The Chinese government had said on Friday that it " consistently and resolutely opposes any form of official exchanges, including military exchanges and cooperation" with Taiwan, which Beijing regards as a breakaway province. A team from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) arrived in Hong Kong on Friday night to try and resolve the issue of its nine Terrex Infantry Carrier Vehicles (ICV) and associated equipment being delayed at the port. The team met with representatives of APL, the shipping contractor involved. The containers which were opened for inspection have been resealed by Hong Kong customs and moved to a secured access-controlled area, said Singapore' s Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). According to a report from by Hong Kong news agency Factwire, it was China' s law enforcement officials who tipped off Hong Kong customs about the shipment of nine armoured vehicles. i think another point is this, LKY is unique as LHL once said. He also had personal friendship with PRC leaders. they were hero see hero, 英 雄 识 英 雄 。 What he could do during his time, may not be something this generation of cabinet, and worse next generation can copy exact. In any case, no one dispute the focus shall be on Singapore' s benefit, just what approach.
