If they need to use more resources for bigger games, they can do another few rounds of MCB. Money is Not.. not enough. It will come to pass.

I will be careful to misquote the PM as he will sue you.  His words were --  Singapore&rsquo s prime minister said on Thursday the government would ensure that national carrier Singapore Airlines (SIA) (SIAL.SI) survives the COVID-19 crisis,   there is no mention of ensuring SIA longterm investors will make money or shares will have a floor of $3 so investors loss will be limited as one comment mentioned.  In fact the every statement..... ...ensure SIA survives means providing more money however much it takes!!  After this 5 to 8 billon $ rights issue which send the price from $7 to $3.80 now.  ...If the money is not enough,  the PM is assuring more such dilution or additional measures will be on the way .  Does that sound like pushing up SIA price??

Long term is a extremely lazy way and stupid way to invest. 10yrs ago, telcos are good stocks to invest in. Along the way, environment changed and clearly, telcos are no longer attractive. Similarly, SPH. When internet not popular, i spent $1 each day to buy New Paper to read on EPL. Now? We got free news easily on internet. SPH share never recovered.
Who is LHL to say SIA will not fail in 10yrs, 20yrs? If development is such that business travel is cut as work patterns change to telecommute, budget airlines serve further destinations, budget airlines starts to carry cargo, who can ensure SIA will not become another SPH?

For those who are holding for long term why worry. LHL already says will not let SIA fail. | ||||

The person will have to pay for rights and mcbs which will be adjusted as cash deductions. i.e cash will be deducted from your account. A more straightforward example is a stock trading on CD. Eg you short yzj 1000 shares CD 95cents with 4.5 cents div. After XD, there will be cash adj of -$45
If yzj trades below 90cents, u still in the money since after deducting 4.5 cents, ur shorts still making money. The prob with SIA is that valuation of MCBs is subjected and overvalued. So those who short over XR will have overpaid for the MCBs. The MCBs traded almost 20 cents on day 1? I dont know how much are the adjustments pas i closed before XR and shorted on day 1 of XR.

How low can they dump? The floor is $3, unless they want to short and buy back at a lower price.

Your explanation seems to suggest stock price tend to be higher on XR compared to CR which I think is just the opposite. But it is ok... for discussion purposes only.  I use CFD for hedging purposes only, never for punting. That is why I do not have a grip regarding CD/XD or CR/XR. What happens if a person enters a short position during CR but did not cover back upon XR?

Im not expert but can tell u. U short during CR and cover back during XD, most like u incur huge loss. As u recall, the rights and mcbs are assigned at ridiculously high valuation on first day of XR and u need to cough up the money on first day.
Also, most broker firms, if u choose SBL to short, in order not to have this messy scenario may choose to force u to cover back by last day of CR. So the scenario u said most likely will not happen. Broker firms have the rights to cancel the sbl arrangements or when the lender of the shares no longer want to participate in lending and will force shortlists to return. Your broker will inform u. But those who short using cfd will get huge hit via cash adjustments on day 1 of XR. While DLC as we read, the value drop to zero.

A question for the experts here: If you short Sell the mother share during cum-Rights (CR) and cover back after Ex-Rights, Do you need to cough out the Rights entitlement that goes with the shares during CR? Is this scenario even possible to execute? |
