Noon Market STI rebounds 1.72% to 2,892.21 at middayAugust 25, 2015 : 12:40 PM Singapore shares reversed from losses suffered in the previous trading session, in line with a recovery in other Asian markets on Tuesday. However, Mainland Chinese markets continued to face an extended sell-off over lingering investor concerns, despite government intervention to prop up equity markets. The Nikkei 225, Hang Seng and KOSPI Indices rose over 1%. Meanwhile, the Shanghai and Shenzhen Composite Indices plummeted around 4% and 6% respectively. Nicholas Teo, Market Analyst at CMC Markets, says:. " This morning' s strong bounce is broad-based and encouraging However, a market rebound of 2, 3, 4 or even 5% are common tales in a bear market Besides, the past. week' s panic plunge is classic capitulation -. with over-reaction on the downside, a usual expression What happens from here demands close scrutiny, deciding what to do now and acting on it, is even more critical " . By 12.09pm, the Straits Times Index gained 1.72% to 2,892.21. Market breadth was positive. Gainers outnumber decliners 272 to 166. A total of 1.01 billion shares worth $ 1.26 billion changed hands. Noble Group, Ezra Holdings, The Stratech Group, Debao Property, and Genting Singapore were among the most actively traded counters. Among the STI component stocks, DBS, OCBC and UOB rose 1.4%, 3.8% and 4.2% respectively. GLP rose 3.9%. Singtel was up 2.9% at $ 3.89 and Noble was up 3.7% to 42.5 cents. Jardine C & C was up 0.14% to $ 27.66 cum dividend. Among the gainers, Midas Holdings rose 4% to 23.5 cents. The manufacturer of aluminium alloy extruded products for passenger rail transportation sector in China has won three contracts worth RMB66.7 million ($ 14.7 million) from two China-based companies. Kingsmen Creatives added 0.6% to 79 cents. The interior fit-out specialists for retail stores, theme parks and museums, has acquired 5,251 sqm of vacant leasehold land at Plot 19 in Changi Business Park for about $ 7.1 million from JTC Corporation as its new headquarters ʱ ?? Silverlake Axis last traded at 63.5 cents on August 21. The Malaysia-based IT services provider says 2Q earnings nudged up 1% to RM74.7 million ($ 24.8 million) from RM 74.3 million a year ago. Revenue fell 8% to RM126.37 million from RM138.04 million a year earlier. Companies that went ex-dividend on Tuesday include Centurion Corporation, CSE Global, Hong Leong Asia, Nordic Group, Petra Foods, Serial System, Teckwah Industrial Corp, and Thai Beverage. |
