Anyway, I have always thought hsets are not a good profit driver.  It' s a zero-sum thing.  All telcos do the same thing, no one wins.  But they also cannot don' t do it  if others  persist with it.  That' s why telcos, with the mkt being so crowded, need to be more innovative n think outside the box so to speak to fight to retain customers, generate more rev n fatten margins  from the increased opportunities (n of course increased competition) available in the mkt place offered by the island-wide fibre system n the ever accelerating cyber revolution among other things.  For example, one thing that truely impressed me was how Stel, probably to the surprise of even MDA (now merged with IDA?) went out of its way to sign exclusive agreement with BPL even as everyone thought MDA had put the issue to bed.  That is what I called really thinking out of the box - a great coup n master stroke to retain n win over paid TV customers.

I look at it differently. Different investors use different ways to look at market. Some use TA, some us FA, some based rumors. Even TA and FA have different branch. It is hard to argue who is right and who is wrong. When someone sells, i look at it that he decides not to take risk based on his own belief.

Coys are not static.  humans are motivated animals so to speak.  When people start focusing only on negatives n keep talking shre px down, they almost always never realise that soul-searching n ' repairs' wld always be carried out.

I guess most of the weak holder buy base on someone advise or epic story......most probably they sell base on epic disastrous story.....story might be told by the same person anonymously.
I guess it better to know what you are buying then hearsay.....

Actually, quite a useful method. Give the weak holders some reason to thing that price will crash. Then shortistis will short sell & hold for a period of time couple with some not so good results, then some weak holders will not be able to sleep & start to sell their stakes. This is more effective when use give them more " convincing" reasons. After that the ball rolled by itself, then the shortists will pick up cheap. Personally, i saw many weak holders & even fund managers kana con & squeeze out, by the time they realise..$$ already burned.

No idea why is the shares dropping when nothing is being put in place. Infrastructure / Testing / Trial / Contractual Agreement Virgin and Singtel Joint Venture closed in 2002 because they recognise that this is a saturated market http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB1026165926595913080 Telco can handle this well - or at least effect wouldnt happen until 2-3 years later. 1. iPhone 7 Sales  If you walk around train and bus stops, you would have seen the M1 advert for iphone 7. Imagine, someone signs up for an iPhone/Samsung from October' 16 - Mar-17. Contract lock in period - 1 to 2 years. 2. Hassle of Switching Broadband Devices   3. Wait and See Theory ViewQWest and Optic Fibre     |

Haha! You are a good example to show that M1 really act on what they say in their most recent financial presentation on one of their objectives which is to attract new customers and retain existing customers!

The competition might not be good for their stock price but in a consumer point of view....definitely is a good thing.
I just recontract my internet broadband and the customer service try to pull out a lof of good deal to retain customer. |

This does challenge the traditional notion that telcos are defensive stocks. If more players come into the same industry and provide similar products and service offerings to the same limited pool of client/ customer base, then that defensive industry will no longer become as defensive as the portion of the pie each player has becomes smaller. Looking at the recent results release of M1 with lesser handset sales, it does show that competition is keen as the other telcos are also offering sales of handsets. We got to look deeper into the types of prodcuts and services that the different telcos are offering. If many of the products such as handsets and services such as broadband internet or even certain corporate telecommunication services are similar in their nature, it could result in keen competition as the 4th telco gets approval from IDA. This is especially true if the switching cost for a client/ customer (whether individual or corporate) from one telco to another is low.  It very much depends on the cost of barrier of entry to the products and services in the telco industry. If it is a low barrier of entry for the teleco industry as a whole for many of their products and services, then the industry may not seem to be that defensive as traditionally perceived. The last thing any industry does not hope for is a price war among competitors offering similar products and services with low barrier of entry (if there is no rules and regulations governing minimum price settings for a similar product or service) which will only erode away each other' s profit margins.

anyone notice despite Wilmar' s weak results, the share price has recovered to a high of 3.33 today ?    isn' t it many didn' t see  Wilmar' s opportunity when it was battered down after the results ?

Wait below 1.80???   SINGAPORE (Oct 19): Maybank Kim Eng and UOB Kay Hian are keeping their " sell" calls on M1 Limited, further lowering their target prices from $2.04 to $1.90 and from $2 to $1.76 respectively - while CIMB maintains its " hold" recommendation on the stock with a lower price target of $2.55 from $2.80 previously. This comes after the mobile operator yesterday posted a hefty 23.4% decline in 3Q earnings, which came in below the expectations of all three research houses. |
