Your thoughts?    Qanghoo      ( Date: 05-Nov-2018 22:14) Posted: Put it this way, I do not listen to rumours n engage in scare-mongering.  At the expense of being branded arrogant, I' d like to think that I have a good perspective of things.  Hence, I  try to post what I know abt the stocks I happen to monitor n a few others that come to my attention, usually the ' good' ones.  Eg, I know that the bks in spore are very robust n management is disciplined n  that above all else, MAS' s  oversight is tip-top.  So, when there' s speculative posts, I try to present a balanced picture as much as I can, sometimes very vigorously too.  I still remember I was challenged when I did so abt the bks  at the  height of the oil ' crisis' .  As it turned out I was correct.  Part of my  confidence to do so stems from my  confidence in the regulatory regime  in this country,  n the fact that I' ve seen through so many similar scenarios being played out over the last 40 yrs whenever there was a downturn (pattern always  similar - all sorts of funny rumours started flying everywhere n indiscriminate selling took hold like no tomorrow,  but ending with none of the doomsday predictions coming true).  So, where we can, I think it helps for us to  try to temper the ' panic' .  For Venture, I was also sceptical  when the share px skyrocketed from < 10 to 30 SGD so quickly.  Then I checked n found that the EPS had grown from < 50c to abt 1.30 over the last five yrs.  Still, was the ' panic buying' overdone?  In my view, yes.  But it has since come down to a more realistic level.  The coy may be going through a bit of a bumpy patch at the moment, but my sense is that it' d come out of it stronger, based on the management' s forward guidance.  Can we trust them?  Well, from what I' ve been reading, even research hses are casting doubt.  But, for me, this is a large blue chip type coy n if even they are giving us cause to doubt their transparency, then we can completely  write off all the efforts the authorities here  have been  making all these while  to, over time,  build a culture of transparency in this country.  Then we all  shd  not just be casting doubts here.  Instead,  we shd  be strenuously  voicing our concerns  to the powers that be.  Sure,  Venture may want to make  itself look good in the way they put the picture across but that' s  a PR effort every coy wld endeavour to do, isn' t it?  On the other hand, there may  also  be competitive n confidentiality reasons  why they seem to be  providing what appears to be rather scanty content in thei guidance.  Overall, though, my take  is they have provided sufficient info for me (others may not agree, I respect that) to be confident that, longer term, the coy is healthy n that  performance n profitability will improve.  Can I be wrong?  Possible, but I wld say not too likely.  What abt my view of the mkt itself?  My sense is that conditions for a major crash are not present.  Yes, there is volatility, plenty of it, no thanks, amongst others, to duckie' s apparent impulsiveness, rhetorics n mixed signals.  But if we' d read DBS' CEO today (in conjunction with the bk' s result briefing), he has taken the view that the trade tensions are causing more mkt volitality than what events will eventually play out.  The US economy is steaming ahead nicely n a soft landing wld be  a realistic scenario.  Global growth, as projected by the IMF, wld shave off slightly (at 3.7% instead of 3.9%) attributable to the trade war, but growth is still intact.  So, things aren' t that bad, are they?  Cheer up, man !!!!! Huge losses. Might pick it up again once it hits $12 or something. Coz I think there is more downside given the missed estimates and macro volatility. Good dividend payouts, but the share cannot go back to its glory days of close to $4 due to market conditions. I think while dividend went up, a sudden drop in its revenue and the management' s reply of next Q results will be better and etc is basically marketing on potential. Potential is a very dangerous tool without solid sales to substantiate. Also, i have limited experience in Ctt manufacturers and their cyclical cycles are not easy to comprehend, I suggest thread with care. So.. for it to pick up, it will need to wait for next few quarters to deliver a consistent series of performances for confidence to come back
