earlybird, isn' t this a genting thread? why u worrying about banks here? lol i am not denying that share buy backs mean that the company feels the share is undervalued - but is it not true that they feel this is the best alternative they have for their cash? instead of M& As etc? so am i wrong to infer that they do not have the opp for M& As and organic growth, which should theoretically lead to better cost savings / earnings, and naturally propel the share price up based on fundamentals? what is the point of having a stagnant business, with good money just spent on buying back shares without improvements to the business? and i do feel that the 1.1B in receivables for genting is a big red flag we should all watch out for - it is almost 10% of genting' s market cap. and don' t forget, these are classified as current assets. they are already seriously debt laden. imagine what would happen if clients default? not saying all would, just the theoretical situation we have to consider should we choose to invest in genting despite the ' cheap' share price. not condemning or promoting the stock. not vested. just my 2c.

LVS perform very well this year, share price top at 88 dollar and now is 56 dollars. If share buy back don' t consider a good news what else? The receivables is a high risk on all stock. Instead of worry on Genting, you shall be more worry on the Banks in singapore now who bear even more loan compared to 2008 crisis. The property market is slow down, property market value is dropping down. If the property market value drop cross the loan amount, the property market value will be accelerating. All banks may discount half in 3 month times.

or because they have no better use for their cash hoard... like M& As or organic growth. Casinos / Resorts are by nature a cash generative business... but the question is: what is the right multiple to pay for them? Anyway on that note, Wynn, MGM and Sands are all down drastically for 2014. To note: Genting has 1.1B in receivables from high rollers / clients etc. careful for possible account impairment and write-offs. furthermore, china clamping down on corruption.

Means a company buys back its own shares from the publics, reducing the number of outstanding (available) shares. Normally is shows that the directors and the company' s management thinks the shares are undervalued. Or they can be doing it when they have too much cash available and want to increase the share price.
