Actually it doesn't really help if Dow Jones is up 100 or 200 pts. Our local STi can still sink into the red end of trading day.
Dow shot up from a low of 8800 pts to 16600 pts in recent yrs. Breaching one record after another in succession. Nikkie is the same. Shot up frpm a low of 8000 pts to a high of 15000+ pts before settling around 14500 pts Our local STi actually plunged from a high of 3800 to 2800 pts before settling around 3200 pts to date. Worst to flair are our penny stocks. A good number are trading at near historical low and many are so rarely traded that they are totally forgotten. Sad scenario to see in our local market. At time, there's worries of US economy, STi sink but Dow Jones can still up. At times, there's worries of China economy, STi sink but Shanghai Composite Index can still goes up. How illogical things can be! Hey, but this is the REAL WORLD, so live with it |

Tokyo: Stocks open up 1.04%
[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened 1.04 per cent higher Thursday after Wall Street closed sharply up with the yen falling against the dollar.
The Nikkei 225 index was up 146.11 points at 14,188.28 at the start. In New York the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.97 per cent to 16,533.06 on Wednesday following Federal Reserve policy meeting minutes that confirmed the Fed' s stated policy course. The minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee' s April 29-30 meeting showed the policy makers launching into how they should prepare the ground for lifting the benchmark federal funds rate from near zero, expected in mid-2015. |

Stocks bounce back at end of crazy week

It was a volatile week for investors, but it ended on a high note.Stocks bounced back late in the day Friday, though the advance was not enough to push the Dow Jones industrial average into positive territory for the week. The S& P 500, which rose above 1,900 for the first time Tuesday, ended almost exactly where it started the week. The Nasdaq had the biggest gain Friday, helping the index notch a small win for the week. Meanwhile, the bond market has been on a tear. The yield on the 10-year note fell to a 6-month low below 2.5% Thursday as investors expect the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates low for a considerable time. Recent economic data has been mixed, and reports released Friday added to concerns about the lackluster recovery. An early reading on consumer sentiment in May unexpectedly fell, but a report on new home construction in April was strong. The European Central Bank is also expected to introduce new stimulus measures soon as the euro area economy remains weak and inflation is tame. Related: CNNMoney' s Tech 30 Indian stocks soared. The nation' s benchmark Sensex index surged to a record high as early election results suggested a sweeping victory for Narendra Modi and the pro-business Bharatiya Janata Party. Other Asian markets and European markets both ended the day mixed. |
