x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	17 workers at Westlite Woodlands dorm test positive for Covid-19 19 MIN AGO SINGAPORE - Seventeen workers at Westlite Woodlands Dormitory have been found to be positive for Covid-19, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Thursday (April 22). They were detected as part of special testing operations at the dorm after a 35-year-old Bangladeshi  staying there  was confirmed to have the coronavirus  on Monday. These cases were immediately isolated and taken to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID), said MOH. The ministry, together with an expert panel which comprises infectious diseases and microbiology experts, is investigating if they are reinfection cases. Apart from the cases in the dorm, MOH said there were 24 new coronavirus cases confirmed as at Thursday noon (April 22), taking Singapore' s total to 60,904. They include  one community case and one new case from migrant workers' dormitories, it said. The remaining cases were imported and placed on  stay-home notice upon arrival in Singapore. More details will be announced on Thursday night. On Wednesday, the sole Covid-19 community case reported is a  39-year-old systems engineer at healthcare provider Parkway Pantai. He has been working from home and has not returned to the workplace. He is asymptomatic and his case is currently unlinked, said MOH. The permanent resident was in India from July 9 last year to Jan 24 this year. On his return to Singapore, he served his stay-home notice at a dedicated facility until Feb 7. He was negative for Covid-19 when tested then. However, he tested positive on Monday when he took a pre-departure test prior to a trip, and was then taken to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases. " His CT  value was very high, which is indicative of a low viral load, and his serology test result has come back positive," said MOH. x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Foreign workers moved and quarantined after 11 more Covid-19 cases detected at Westlite Woodlands dorm 1 HOUR AGO SINGAPORE - Hundreds of migrant workers at Westlite Woodlands dormitory were transferred out and quarantined  on Thursday (April 22) after 11 more Covid-19 cases were  detected at the dormitory on Wednesday. One of the places they were taken to is Quality Hotel Marlow in  Balestier Road, The Straits Times found out. The 240-room hotel is listed online as temporarily closed. About 15 buses had arrived at the dormitory  in the morning to ferry the workers. This comes after a 35-year-old Bangladeshi worker staying at the dormitory  tested positive for the virus on Monday,  despite receiving both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. From about 10.50am, the buses were seen queueing up outside the dormitory before being allowed to enter the premises. Certis Cisco personnel dressed in personal protection equipment (PPE) supervised the movement of workers, who had brought along some of their belongings, to the buses. At about 12.30pm, the buses left in the heavy rain. One of the buses made its way to the hotel in  Balestier Road where a group of personnel dressed in PPE were waiting to receive the migrant workers. Health officials across northern and western India including the capital, New Delhi, said they were in crisis, with most hospitals full and running out of oxygen. Doctors in some places were advising patients to stay at home while a crematorium in the eastern city of Muzaffarpur said it was being overwhelmed with bodies and grieving families had to wait their turn. " Right now there are no beds, no oxygen. Everything else is secondary," Shahid Jameel, a virologist and director of the Trivedi School of Biosciences at Ashoka University, told Reuters. " The infrastructure is crumbling." Krutika Kuppalli, assistant professor at the Division of Infectious Diseases, Medical University of South Carolina in the United States, said on Twitter the crisis was leading to a  collapse of the healthcare system. The previous record one-day rise in cases was held by the United States, which had 297,430 new cases on one day in January, though its tally has since fallen sharply. India' s total cases are now at 15.93 million, while deaths rose by 2,104 to reach a total of 184,657, according to the latest health ministry data. Television showed images of people with empty oxygen cylinders crowding refilling facilities as they scrambled to save relatives in hospital.
