  President Zelensky from Uraine doesn&rsquo t want to be the next President Mikheil Saakashvili from Geogia duplicating the latter&rsquo s Russia foreign policy. What was the end result of Saakashvili&rsquo s Russia foreign policy management for Georgia?

Zelensky is playing a very bad poker hand the best he can to keep independant Ukraine in the game:
  1. His armed forces face a superior foreign armed force hostile to his country - with the added caveat that some of those superior foreign forces take up residence within parts of recognized Ukraine. Similar to Georgia.
  2. To pursue a final military solution in the separatist regions - also hosting a Russia armed force would bring on a bad pretext for Russia to grab more real estate in Ukraine. Again, a similar scenario to Georgia.
  3. The European and NATO poilitical allies and partners are not pledging a security guarantee enforcement. Again, a similar scenario to Georgia.
  4. Avoiding a social and economic panic in Ukraine. A rash action would result in a disruption to the state of Ukraine from within. Such as a run on state banks stoppage of foreign investment shutter of foreign embassies and emmigration of citizens.Last counts,96 billions from UKraine already left,only 4 remains!!


I do not identify any better options for Zelensky to play than what he is already doing. It is a good sign that Zelensky has put together a team of well placed advisors but NATO and USA onlys words not deeds already dishearten a nations. Zelensky has remain be cool as a cucumber in this area and encourage his foreign political allies to act in the same way. btw, the tone of the crisis is where the differences exist between Zelensky and POTUS Biden as being further harmful to Ukraine.

Let me start with explaining the complication, as they matter.
  • Russia learned from Soviet war in Afghanistan and Chechen wars probably better than other countries.
    • It&rsquo s better to join something which won&rsquo t fight (like Crimea)
    • Or fight should be done mostly by locals
    • And there should be powerful local group talking language the locals understand and ready to take power.
  • Ukraine is not a prize, Ukraine is a box of problems. Ukraine is a country where most population is poor, industries mostly lost and remaining can&rsquo t be competitive at high gas prices, infrastructure is crumbling, but rich make bloody money.

    Joining Crimea took of Russia very big infrastructure investment, even providing that almost all locals were ready and willing to work on the same positions, and there were even refugees from Ukraine willing to work in Crimea
    But Crimea had no local mogul owning it all, while in Ukraine everyone politically savvy knows that Kolomoisky is mogul of Dnepropetrovsk, Akhmetov is mogul of Donbass, Poroshenko is mogul of Vinnytsya region etc. If Russia takes those, moguls will sue Russia for damages, and West gladly help them.
  • West also promised strong sanctions. EU probably be obliged to them.

    That could create problems for both Russian export and Russian transits.


The recent two decades showed Russia not that reckless, but making cold moves.
  • Russia stopped Second Karabakh War &ldquo by a phone call&rdquo . NATO member Turkey backing of Azerbaijan turned out to be not the most decisive factor (just like in Syria, btw).
  • Russia turned tables in Syrian conflict. &ldquo Assad must go&rdquo slipped to oblivion.
  • Russia participated in brokering Minsk accords
  • Belarus withstood regime change pressure. And it&rsquo s Ukraine, not Belarus where factories shut down and blackouts are now announced.
  • When did you hear last time what&rsquo s up with that Navalny guy, once proclaimed himself and by the Western media &ldquo nemesis of Putin&rdquo which Putin is afraid of?
  • The Western &ldquo new green course&rdquo turned out to be not that successful. Gas prices skyrocketed, and the EU countries need to think before pissing off Russia.

    The skyrocketing gas prices are where the West, including NATO, failed Ukraine again. Ukraine can&rsquo t really compete for buying gas with the UK, Germany and other NATO members. So if for those comes shortage, for Ukraine comes shutdown.
  • While Russia has not the best covid record, it does not have too bad covid restrictions protests either.
  • Putin passed his constitutional amendments having majority agreeing or indifferent.
  • Joining Crimea is one of the most brilliant operation in the recent history &mdash no military losses, but tens of thousands of Crimeans joined Russian forces.

    You may not like it, but Crimeans didn&rsquo t join you either.
  • Russia won war in Ossetia in 2008 in five days &mdash even, they say, being not in the best shape.
  • Russia won Chechen wars. They suffered several terrorist attacks, but managed. Current Chechen leader Kadyrov is considered one of the strongest backers of Putin.

    And that is quite contrast to what happened in Afghanistan.


Russia also kept her ledgers well.

Singtel in consortium for Singapore-France submarine cable system
  A submarine cable system connecting multiple countries between Singapore and France has commenced construction, a consortium of companies, which includes Singtel, announced on Monday (Feb 21).
 
The 19,200km-long submarine cable system will connect multiple countries from Singapore to France - traversing Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, India, Pakistan, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. It will be ready by the first quarter of 2025, Singtel said in a statement.
 
The consortium, called the South-east Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 6 (SEA-ME-WE 6), includes Singtel, the Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company, Bharti Airtel (India), Dhiraagu (Maldives), Djibouti Telecom, Mobily (Saudi Arabia), Orange (France), Sri Lanka Telecom, Telecom Egypt, Telekom Malaysia, Telin (Indonesia) and Trans World Associates (Pakistan).
 
Singtel said that SEA-ME-WE 6 will offer one of the lowest latencies available between South-east Asia, the Middle East and Western Europe, transferring more than 100 terabytes per second - or about 40,000 high-definition videos per second.
 
It will also provide an additional layer of " diversity and resilience" for the high traffic density route between Asia and Europe, as well as strengthen the overall network of each consortium partner through trans-Egypt' s new geo diversified crossings and landing points.
 
This added flexibility means service providers in the consortium can rapidly scale capacity, protect traffic from faults and lower their total cost of network ownership, Singtel noted.
 
Mr Yue Meng Fai, SEA-ME-WE 6 management committee chairman and Singtel' s senior director of consortium cable engineering, said that, with even more people working and living remotely, the new cable system will provide faster broadband access to users along a multi-regional data superhighway.
 
This is while supporting surges from changing working and consumption habits from 5G, remote working needs and video-streaming demands, among others.
