This is business...and politics.  To up the pressure, US can tell those that use HW equipment, that data transfer to and from their network might suffer delays due to additional security checks and screeening............ the telco and service provider are facing a tough choice.  US or HW.  Choose HW, you lost the data biz of US (trading especially)....choose US, you get into the bad books of China.....

The story is like this.  US alleges that HW 5G telecom equipment are fitted with ' sensors' to spy on host countries who install their systems.  Since then, a number of countries have been taken in n are avaiding HW.  But from what I recall reading, Germany seems not convinced (unless proved otherwise).  UK apparently also seems less concerned cos they said they wld be able to expunge any such potential security threat.  Recently, the HW boss came out to suggest that America was trying to crush HW n he asserted that America wld not be able to.  HW wld move away from America to other countries that welcomed its business.  I believe India has not expressed any concerned.  So, it' s not like Stel' s sudden fall today is linked to Airtel' s alleged embracing of HW equipment. For Stel' s investment in Airtel, the potential downside seems to be the cut-throat competition in the Indian mobile space.  My personal take is Stel fall today is temporary, unlikely linked to its investments in India.  I also share the view that the HW thing is just ang moh bullying.

think airtel has some huawei equipment..  but then hua wei saga is a one sided claim without proof. they may have suspect base on who was caught as spy but think cannot proof. but it is a good bargain chip.just raise anything out of nothing and bully lor. like malaysia . no position so try to create trouble and use as bargain chip. |

1st is Singtel using Huawei' s 5G equipment?  If so and if security is a concern to US and EU there are there going to be some form of restriction on data and calls, delay or extra cost?  Will these eventually affects our trading in terms of speed of transaction execution and  how fast breaking news from the US and Eu can reach us..........  These are the question Singtel will probably need to address soon.

Singtel taps giants ----  China Mobile and Microsoft................. Singtel shares networks with China Mobile in IoT collaboration, partners Microsoft on IoT network cloud services TUE, FEB 26, 2019 - 1:17 PM SINGTEL has signed a master services agreement with China Mobile International Ltd to collaborate on accelerating enterprise adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) in the Asia-Pacific region. China Mobile International is a wholly owned subsidiary of state-owned telco  giant China Mobile. Both companies will enable each other&rsquo s  enterprise customers to seamlessly deploy their IoT devices installed in cars, consumer  electronics and industrial equipment across China and Singapore, they said in a joint media statement on Tuesday. The IoT partnership will enable China Mobile International&rsquo s enterprise customers to easily deploy  their IoT devices onto Singtel&rsquo s network in Singapore, without having to manually configure the  devices or switch networks in-country.  Likewise, Singtel&rsquo s business customers can use their own IoT solutions or devices in China on China Mobile&rsquo s network. The partners will give their customers a common management platform which provides network visibility and control of their devices in both countries.  There will also be a simplified single-billing process to allow customers to enjoy better cost management and the convenience of receiving a consolidated bill. &ldquo The partnership reinforces the synergy of our combined extensive networks in China and  Singapore to generate economies of scale, allowing enterprises to accelerate the expansion of  their IoT footprints in the two countries,&rdquo said Diomedes Kastanis, Singtel' s head of IoT.  &ldquo Our partnership with an established leader like China Mobile International  cements our commitment to empowering enterprises with the right capabilities to reap the full  potential of IoT, starting with connectivity.&rdquo Singtel will also offer China Mobile International&rsquo s suite of NB-IoT products and a device management platform to customers in Singapore.  NB-IoT is a  cost and power-efficient technology that works on low power networks, enabling a wide range of  commercial uses such as smart metering for utilities, powering connected health and industrial  appliances, and smart city infrastructure, said the partners. Said Andrew Niu, chief partnership officer at China Mobile International: " Future-ready businesses with footholds in multiple markets win by delivering consistently superior customer experiences based on insights derived from data, and this is only possible with the support of a robust IoT infrastructure and network that spans across countries." Separately, Singtel has partnered Microsoft to launch an AI-powered (artificial intelligence-powered) IoT network over cloud computing platform Microsoft Azure, to create a unified and programmable platform that looks to combine intelligent connectivity with the cloud for IoT. By integrating Singtel&rsquo s IoT network functions into Microsoft Azure, IoT applications can migrate flexibly from devices to  networks and to clouds seamlessly. The platform will also tap Azure&rsquo s cloud services including IoT Hub, IoT Edge and other machine learning and cognitive services to extend cloud intelligence and analytics to devices. Using AI layered into the network, the platform can deliver timely intelligence on the performance of applications and devices to facilitate better business decisions. Alberto Granados, vice-president of sales, marketing and operations at Microsoft Asia Pacific, said the collaboration will provide a spectrum of offerings to developers, innovators, entrepreneurs and visionaries to quickly develop and deploy IoT applications. https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/companies-markets/singtel-shares-networks-with-china-mobile-in-iot-collaboration-partners-microsoft |

airtel 9q of losses!!! singtel management in singapore is sleeping or too generous. a company lost money because it cannot match cost to income. so it means airtel is eating singtel alive. stop it. rationalised until can make money.either increased income or reduce expenditure. no need to listen to c and bull story on competitions etc. which industry has no competition?

future is an unknown thing.  new commer is unknown but by history likely they will bow out later like previous wanna be.  if longer term future (increased connection due to 5G)sales up then profit up=> yield up=> share price may up. also for telco their current invested software/hardware cost will depreciate down year after year. when it hit zero.profit will enjoy a up. cash flow should up all the time. else need to shake mangement howthey spend the money? pay themself too well? they have not done headcount rationalisation yet with the increased used of AI and software robotics. reality is the immediate future does not look good. mid term unknown. longer term should be quite good. so there are sellers and there are buyers. small vested interest. will not buy more yet. but if price goes really attractive , why not. caveat emptor. |

Alhough price is not expensive now, Singtel will be reverting to the payout ratio of between 60% to 75% of its underlying net profit in the future (https://www.singtel.com/about-Us/investor-relations/dividends). If future profit drops => dividend drops => yield drop => share price may drop.
