x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Overnight, the CEO of Dry bulk shipper Golden Ocean Group, Herman Billung spoke before an industry conference in Oslo, and made it clear that our worst-case expectations may prove to be optimistic. Photo: Golden Ocean Group He said that Dry Bulk shippers should expect little respite for another two years, adding that an enormous oversupply of vessels isn?t sustainable: "It's a fair assumption to make that only half of the orderbook in 2016 will be delivered." He warned that "in the coming months there will be a lot of bankruptcies, counterparty risk will be on everybody's lips." Useful tip: any time a CEO is warning about counterparty risk, it's probably a good idea to listen. Just to emphasize his point to the local audience he said that "The market has never been this bad before in modern history.We haven't seen a market this bad since the Viking age. This is not sustainable for anybody and will lead to dramatic changes." Yes, it's that bad. And what's worse, is that once Billung is proven to be right and the dry bulk bankruptcy tsunami is unleashed sweeping away hundreds of ships with it, the next question will be just which  (mostly European) banks, have the greatest "secured" loan exposure to the dry bulk industry, a sector where we fully expect recoveries on secured loans to be in the pennies on the dollar

The pick-up follows a week of gains for the battered commodity, which in January was wallowing near 13-year lows below US $ 30 a barrel owing to overproduction, a supply glut and a slowdown in the global economy. Nigerian oil minister Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu said Thursday that the meeting will be held on March 20 and predicted there will be a " dramatic price movement" , Bloomberg News reported. At around 0400 GMT, US benchmark West Texas Intermediate for April delivery was 24 cents higher at US $ 34.81 a barrel. Brent for May rose 11 cents to US $ 37.18 a barrel. Crude has picked up recently following speculation over plans by major oil producers including Opec kingpin Saudi Arabia to cap output. Market strategist Bernard Aw from IG Markets Singapore told AFP that for the potential meeting between Opec members and Russia to bear fruit, the major producers have to be present. " If the big players such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq agree to freeze output, it could help somewhat. But, the fundamentals of the market remain largely unchanged, it is still quite oversupplied. " Maybe in the short term it will help development in the oil market, we could see a return to maybe US $ 40," Aw said. Another boost to the hammered commodity was US Energy Information Administration (EIA) data released Thursday showing oil production falling to just over nine million barrels per day in the week to February 26. " There were a series of positive developments in the oil market ... If this keeps up, then I think we will see a more sustainable rebound in oil markets, at least for the near term," Aw added. Saudi Arabia, Russia, Qatar and Venezuela agreed on February 16 in Doha that they would freeze output if other producers followed suit in an effort to tackle the oversupply problem.

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Hong Kong Stocks Rise Ahead of NPC Meeting Yuan Appreciates Hong Kong stocks rose Friday, led by gains in industrial goods, energy and property shares, ahead of China' s policy-setting meeting Saturday and a U.S. jobs report due after market close. The Hang Seng Index increased 0.6% to 20,053 midday and is on track to book a 3.5% weekly gain. Stocks were also rising as the offshore yuan appreciated sharply against the U.S. dollar in the morning. Chinese authorities had guided the onshore yuan 0.2% stronger in the morning, the largest increase since December.
