Commonsense will tell you that if India is that great with tremendous potential why aren' t US targeting them for sanctions etc.   Instead US is targeting at a China. Why? Answer is obvious.   | ||||

Singtel share is sinking!   The management team is not doing any justice to the ordinary shareholders of Singtel by pouring good money after bad into India.

Singtel associate Airtel launches US$3b mega fundraisingTHU, JAN 09, 2020 - 12:41 PM

  UPDATED THU, JAN 09, 2020 - 1:01 PM
BHARTI Airtel has proposed to raise up to US$3 billion from a mix of debt and equity, which will enable it to pay a hefty fine as well as finance capital expenditure. The Indian associate telco of mainboard-listed Singtel is looking to issue shares worth US$2 billion via a qualified institutional placement with a floor price of 452.09 rupees per share, according to Singtel&rsquo s bourse filing on Thursday morning. The actual issue price will be determined by Airtel in consultation with the appointed book-running lead managers. The preliminary placement document was filed on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Airtel is also planning to issue up to US$1 billion in foreign-currency convertible bonds. Fitch Ratings has assigned a BBB-/RWN rating to the proposed bond sale. The capital raising exercise comes as the phone carrier has to fork out billions of dollars in statutory dues to the Indian government by Jan 24, as mandated by the Supreme Court of India. On Oct 24, 2019, the court had ordered India&rsquo s mobile operators, including Airtel, to pay the state a total of 920 billion rupees (S$17.39 billion) in penalties plus interest within three months. The verdict ended a protracted 14-year legal tussle over the definition of " adjusted gross revenue" . Based on the court&rsquo s judgment, Airtel made a provision of about 284.5 billion rupees in its financial statements for the second quarter ended Sept 30, 2019. This figure accounts for the estimated licence fees and spectrum usage charges payable to the government, according to Airtel' s filing on Nov 14. Separately, the company has announced two tariff hikes &ndash one in November and  another in December  last year &ndash to end a bruising price war among the India' s top three telecom players. Airtel is a key regional associate that has weighed on shareholder Singtel&rsquo s earnings and balance sheet. Singtel shares were down four Singapore cents or 1.18 per cent to S$3.35 as at the midday break on Thursday. |

Taiwan' s Chunghwa Telecom to recruit 3,000 new staff  6238

    By    Central News Agency
2019/12/27 14:50
![]() Chunghwa Telecom is expanding its staff.  (CNA photo) Chunghwa Telecom Co., one of the leading telecom service providers in Taiwan, announced plans to hire an additional 3,000 staff to make up for large scale retirements over the next three years, at an event to thank retirees earlier this week. Chunghwa Telecom said over the next three years, more than 4,000 employees are set to retire, so the company needs to hire new staff, though it did not disclose a time frame for the recruitment process. The retirements will include 1,400 staff who currently work in the company' s core business divisions such as broadband and mobile communications, Chunghwa Telecom said. In the second half of this year, a total of 576 employees will retire, according to the company. To boost its workforce following the large scale retirements, the telecoms operator said, the upcoming recruitment campaign will also look to cultivate talent in emerging businesses. Areas of focus include Multimedia on Demand (MOD), Over-The-Top (OTT) Media Services, artificial intelligence, cloud-based technologies, virtual reality, augmented reality and big data, which are expected to need about 1,600 new staff.

Chunghwa Telecom said Taiwan is entering the 5G era and the company is determined to focus on new technology development as the government has declared 2020 the first year of 5G technology for the country. The government has already launched an auction of 5G spectrum with Friday the 14th day of the auction which is set to continue into next week. Chunghwa Telecom and four other major telecom operators in Taiwan -- Taiwan Mobile Co., Far EasTone Telecommunications Co., Taiwan Star Telecom Corp. and Asia Pacific Telecom Co., are bidding for the spectrum. In the first 11 months of this year, Chunghwa Telecom posted NT$30.34 billion (US$1.02 billion) in net profit, down 7.1 percent from a year earlier, with earnings per share of NT$3.91, while consolidated sales totaled NT$187.38 billion, down 4.4 percent from a year earlier. As of the end of November, Chunghwa Telecom had about 2.09 million MOD service subscribers and 10.67 million mobile communication subscribers, the company said. In addition, Chunghwa Telecom has posted more than NT$8 billion in revenue from Internet of Things (IoT) related business so far this year, beating the NT$6.8 billion earned in 2018. The telecom operator is looking to boost IoT business revenue by 10-20 percent in 2020. Chunghwa Telecom has scheduled an investor conference for Jan. 22, 2020 to report its fourth quarter results. To meet demand for 5G technology, Far EasTone Telecommunications said it is planning to recruit more than 1,000 new staff next year, adding that it will use the hiring process to boost its talent pool in a wide range of operations such as app development, OTT and information security. Meanwhile, Taiwan Mobile said it will need new blood in big data, software development and marketing, indicating that the upcoming recruitment campaign will have no limit. RHB keeps telco sector at ' neutral' as competition heats up
Samantha Chiew  24/12/2019, 4:21pm

SINGAPORE (Dec 24): The mobile revenues of Singapore telcos will remain under pressure in 2020.
In a report released on Dec 19, RHB Research' s team of analysts says it expects competition to be the key downside risk facing the industry in the coming year.   According to the report, the local mobile market is both competitive and fragmented with SIM penetration at over 150%.   With stocks having priced in the prospect of increased competition over the past two years from new entrants and structural revenue and ebitda pressures, RHB also believes that the telco sector&rsquo s risk-reward profile is largely balanced. On the back of this, the research house is staying &ldquo neutral&rdquo on the industry.   &ldquo We expect industry mobile revenues and earnings to remain under pressure in 2020, given the extended weakness in usage revenues (international direct dialling, voice, and roaming) and data competition,&rdquo says RHB.
Meanwhile, RHB expects the telcos&rsquo ebitdas to remain relatively steady due to the tight focus on costs, digitisation initiatives, and lower traffic expenses.   On the back of this, Singtel has recorded about $263 million in cost savings in 9M2019, while StarHub has realised over $120 million.   RHB&rsquo s top pick within the telco sector is Singtel, albeit with &ldquo neutral&rdquo recommendation and a target price of $3.50. RHB recommends it due to its earnings diversity, with more than 70% of Singtel&rsquo s revenue coming in from outside Singapore, as well as dividend certainty.   &ldquo We believe the stock&rsquo s risk-reward profile is largely balanced, with the resilient consumer business providing a buffer against headwinds in the enterprise segment and regulatory concerns,&rdquo says RHB.   As for the sector as a whole, RHB believes that the frontrunners are Singtel and a joint venture between StarHub and M1 for the coming 5G roll-out.   For the joint venture, RHB expects enterprise revenues to remain the major growth driver for StarHub and M1, providing them a buffer against weak mobile revenues.   The joint venture has a modest share in the enterprise market, with enterprise revenue making up 24% of StarHub&rsquo s revenue in 9M19 and 13% of M1&rsquo s revenue in FY18, as compared to Singtel&rsquo s 26% in 1H20.
&ldquo While Singapore will be one of the first in the region to rollout 5G on the mid-band spectrum (3.5GHz), we see little impact on the sector in the medium term due to the already extensive fibre penetration and adoption nationwide and selected-use cases &ndash mostly confined to enterprise verticals and smart solutions for cities,&rdquo it adds.   As at 4.14pm, shares in Singtel and StarHub are trading at $3.37 and $1.40, respectively. |
