I have said many times here. The major real threat from Grab is not passengers switching away, BUT drivers switching away. In the past CDG is the biggest company, so when ppl book they first call cdg. This sort of give drivers better business. But now what is cdg competitive edge against other taxi company?

Years back, it used to be that cabs were dispensed on a owner-hirer basis (meaning after paying up for the cost of the cab + financial costs, the driver gets to own the cab for abt two more yrs before the cab' s seven-yr life was due). Then CD, from what I understand, made its cabs available compulsorily on a ' hire only' basis to squeeze more out of the drivers (n ultimately out of the commuters) to increase its margins n profitability. Now, with the competition hotting up, it looks like hiring margins are being squeezed substantially from what I am seeing here n profitability wld likely fall pretty much too. If this is the case, likely that the share px wld fall further going forward?

The smaller taxi companies all outsource their booking service to Grab. I think this saves cost and admin work.
So question is, for a new driver, which taxi company would he prefer?

Gahment will do it' s best to make sure the transport coys remain viable, remembering only too well the STC debacle ard end 1972. But qn is how big or small the profits wld be which wld probably determine how long kena hold ....

For me, the worst, is we killed our own pah hong chia, poor fellas trying to make a decent living, but allow Uber n Grab. What so different now? I definitely don' t see.

We don't know for sure if uber biz model can last. What we know is there many investors queueing to give uber more money to burn. So if uber was to close shop one day, it is definitely not before it create huge damage to traditional taxi company.
