I beg to differ, Not every IPOs are priced at their best valuation, for eg jumbo, its being priced at 25 cts, now, its almost triple. Some companies take the route of ipo in order to raise funds for expansion and other purposes instead of keep borrowing from the banks. Moreover, ipo a company will enchance the public proflle of a company, but most of all, its OPM that funding their expansion, if it meets the criteria why not. It might turn out to be a win win situation for the owners of the companies plus the investing public. Another good example would be FB, ipo at 38 bucks, now its worth 138 bucks, so not all companies ipoed at their highest valuation. Some gems could be found if u do enough due diligence. Not advocating Kimly is a buy.

Businesses always want " better valuation" for their businesses. That' s why they always ipo on their peak of the business cycle. Some also do it with intention of expansion, that' s why good valuation will grant them more bargaining power in borrowing from banks for expansion. However valuation from stock market is based on opinions that very subjective and volatile. As long as they can create a case and feel opinion   is favourable, they will ipo. Lesser public trench in a " popular counter at the moment" may also due to normal demand but limited supply, pushes prices higher and faster. This will go on until some major holders decided to let go of their own shares.  |

It is almost certain in most if not all IPOs that it benefits the owners/ major shareholders and any invited parties who subscribed for private placement shares. Their offer price for subscribing new shares of the company is always lesser than the IPO offer price. These are the interested parties who will benefit from the IPO the most. Thus, there is a common saying that IPO means " it' s probably over-priced" . The company will justify in their IPO prospectus with supporting figures that their company is worth certain valuation. But, it is always taking into account their best prior year or few years of performance when they get public listed. Thus, they get public listed at the highest possible valuation based on a set of most promising prior year' s/ years' business performance. It is " somewhat interesting" that no private company (unless the company is a silly one) will apply for IPO on the lowest point in their business cycle. Well, one always need to present the best side of things to get the most out of it.   |

Hot Yes, but be careful. Not so simple from the placement and public tranche allocation. I think I know " their purpose and motives" .  1. placement tranche too much might as well NOT IPO (should be Public Offer not Private Offer    )   public tranche so few " something is just not so right"
2. Kimly coffeeshops are on Master Leased Basis, not wholly owned by them. They are sub landlords. When Real Landlords increases coffeeshop prices due to competition bids, what will be left of Kimly ?

When you think of Kimly, you think of kopitiams. When you think of kopitiams, you think of Kopi, Bread and Butter. Too bad I cannot buy Auric Pacific and Super Group anymore. (Offer + Delisting soon). So quality stocks like Sheng Siong, QAF, Food Empire, BreadTalk come to my mind when I think of Kopi, Bread and Butter.

i think when jumbo IPO at 25cents, the p/e ratio was about 14, based on 2014 earnings of 1.8 cents eps.. so 12 p/e ratio from kimly is fairly ok.. anyway, most of the food/bev counters are irrationally highly value at more than 20 p/e.. this is how market values sectors like food/bev & healthcare.. they like to overvalue them, so have to gauge based on sector performance.. in normal sense, normally i will only look at counters which shows consistent performance on its bottomline & have p/e less than 10 and give more than 5% dividend with no debt if possible..
