What I saw was a solid white bar with upper and lower shadows. The selling was well absorbed. It opened low but nevertheless it closed higher. Buying opportunity?

This came as a surprise albeit a nasty one. While it seems like the overrun in the Brazilian yard is almost at the end of the tunnel, the Brazil Tax Authority threw a spanner in the works. It makes investing in VARD pretty damp now with this long-term overcast. |

they are effectively telling you they need to withhold dividend to prepare war chest in case of lawsuit. in this case since the lawsuit can stretch many years, they will need to withhold dividend for many years! good excuse?

Profit Guidance The Board of Vard Holdings Limited (the " Company" and together with its subsidiaries, the &ldquo Group&rdquo ) wishes to inform that the Company has received a tax claim for FY2010 from tax authorities in Brazil, and is evaluating the need for provisions for additional tax cost. In a matter relating to transfer pricing of goods and services delivered from the Group&rsquo s Norwegian entities to Vard Niteró i in FY2010, and tax treatment thereof, the Company has been notified that Brazilian authorities have concluded a tax assessment resulting in an additional tax claim of approximately NOK 200 million including penalties and interest accrued. The diverging assessment originates from conflicting Brazilian transfer pricing rules, which have only been aligned as from FY2013. The Company will file an appeal against the ruling, and no payments are expected to be made before a final conclusion of the case, which may take several years. No provisions have previously been made for this claim as such unfavorable assessment was deemed highly unlikely, based on legal and tax advice received by the Company. The Company is currently reassessing the probabilities for the outcome of the tax dispute, and the need for provisions in its financial accounts. Further details will be disclosed latest when the Company announces the unaudited results for the third quarter ending 30 September 2014. |

Vard Holdings turnaround to continue playing out in 2H14 and 2015. It expect its profits to jump 49% in 2014 and another 44% in 2015. Its 1.4time 2015&rsquo s price-to-book ratio with return-on-equity improving to 18% by 2015, and enterprise value/order book of only 0.4 time, Vard Holdings have a rating of a deep value buy. |

It is difficult to make money with shipyards in Brazil! Have we not seen this happen to Keppel and Jurong and many others? Everything looks like Ipanema beach when we go in Brazil in the end it is loss and pain and Vard is no different. These Norwaigeans are bleeding millions at the cost of Italians who have stayed on the side lines till now. |

My modest view (does not mean I'm right) is based on results and outlook, there is no need to cut loss UNLESS (1) you have no holding power (2) your analysis tells you to cut down to buy much cheaper later (3) you have a hot tip or strong feeling about another counter that you prefer to switch your funds over there. No right or wrong. Just judgement call. For me, I would cut loss only if earnings outlook is clearly poor or there is a company mismanagement controversy.
My view. Go with your comfort zone and not be influenced by forumers' feelings. No one can be 100% sure of any stock direction. Good luck.
