Doing a REITs thingy for the retail spaces is out.....since the space do not belong to them in the first place, but is leased from LTA on a yearly basis..........SMRT in a worst position then I initially thought when I assumed(incorrectly) that they own the retails spaces. | ||||

what is the dividend payout this year? in % term?.....if I remember correctly, it is less than the FD in banks at current price.....correct me if I am wrong.

And a further nightmare scenario is when LTA takes back the bad with the good. ie, take back the rotten trains, but also take away the good stuff like retail space. Then SMRT will be reduced to just a train and retail manager, simply working for the LTA. |

What I am afraid is that to avoid being seen as bailing out SMRT shareholders, LTA may take back the train and other assets, but will not pay SMRT much money for them. Basically, it will just take the monkey off SMRT' s back so that commuters can have a better rides, when government can upgrade the trains and improve the routes without worrying too much about the cost. So in the end, the commuters benefit.
