Asia stock markets set for flat open after US gains, oil slide 1 Hour Ago Futures pointed to a flat open for Asian markets on Wednesday, after U.S. stocks eked out gains and as oil prices slid. Oil prices closed down overnight, likely due to profit taking following a two-day rally. Global benchmark Brent was down 3 cents at $ 50.62 a barrel, while U.S. crude futures ended down 1 percent at $ 48.85. Data from the American Petroleum Institute that showed crude inventories fell by 5.2 million barrels for the week ended June 17, Reuters reported. A Reuters poll of analysts expected the drawdown to be only a third of the figure at 1.7 million barrels. |

Stocks post slight gains after Yellen comments Brexit vote eyed U.S. stocks closed mildly higher Tuesday, amid declines in oil prices, as investors eyed the latest Brexit polls and digested remarks from the Fed chair. All three major indexes briefly erased opening gains in mid-morning trade. " I think that you' ve got a polling stalemate and people do not know what to do," said Maris Ogg, president at Tower Bridge Advisors. " At this moment, I think it' s better to stay in cash." The EU referendum is set for Thursday. Analysts at Citi said in a Tuesday note they still see a 40 percent probability of a Brexit. " The end of the referendum will not alleviate political fragmentation, with anti-immigration, anti-establishment sentiment contributing to Vox Populi Risk, especially but not exclusively in Europe, " they said. " The focus of attention this week is on the UK vote on Thursday. It looks like overnight the polls tightened up a little bit," said Bruce Bittles, chief investment strategist at Baird. " It' s a pretty nervous market. Nobody has any profits for the year. The last thing you want to do is get caught in a downdraft. " Ahead of the referendum, U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen kicks off her two-day testimony before Congress with a session scheduled for Tuesday morning before the Senate Banking Committee. In prepared remarks, she said a cautious approach to monetary policy remains appropriate and while the pace of improvement in the labor market has slowed, it' s important not to overreact to one or two labor reports. She added that a UK vote to leave the EU could have significant economic repercussions. She noted " transitory" pressure on inflation. Investors are listening closely for clues on the Fed' s view on the economy and reasons for the recent shift in tone away from a summer rate hike. Analysts do not expect major changes in her stance on monetary policy since the Fed just met last week. U.S. crude oil futures for July delivery settled 52 cents lower, or 1.05 percent, at $ 48.85 a barrel. Read more.... |

Spent most of the day in the red, ending a nett 11.42 points lower at 2,789.45 Turnover however , was a poor 985 million units worth S $ 942 million despite being boosted by the debut of Frasers Logistics and Industrial Trust (FLT) that accounted for S $ 128 million. Asia: Markets extend gains but Britain EU vote shreds nerves Asian markets edged up on Tuesday but dealers remained cautious as the optimism over Britain' s EU membership that drove a global rally faded, with the knife-edge referendum just days away. Asia markets look set for a breather after anti-Brexit rally 1 Hour Ago Futures pointed to a near-flat open for Asian markets on Tuesday, following Monday' s global rally on the back of easing Brexit concerns and gains in oil prices. Australian SPI futures traded up 0.5 percent at 5,221, a touch lower than the ASX 200' s last close at 5,256.75 Nikkei futures in Chicago were at 15,900, while Osaka futures were down 0.19 percent at 15,890 . The Japanese benchmark index finished at 15,965.30 on Monday. Risk sentiment received a boost at the start of the week, after several new polls in the United Kingdom (UK) published at the weekend suggested a swing of momentum in favor of the remain camp. The polling data saw sterling rally, stocks rise and bond yields come off of the record lows reached in the previous week. But analysts also warned that markets have become " hyper-sensitive" to Brexit news, and that if any opinion polls before the June 23 referendum vote indicated a resurgence in the leave campaign' s momentum, there could be another sell-off. Oil prices rose on Monday, with global benchmark Brent up 3 percent at $ 50.65 a barrel, while U.S. crude added 2.9 percent to $ 49.37. Reuters reported data from market intelligence firm Genscape that pointed to a drawdown of 568,213 barrels at the Cushing, Oklahoma, delivery base for U.S. crude futures in the the week to June 17. |

Stocks rally as Brexit concerns dim Dow gains over 100 points U.S. stocks closed higher Monday, amid gains in oil prices, as fears of a Brexit diminished. US crude oil futures settled up 2.9 percent at $ 49.37 a barrel. Energy closed about 1 percent higher as one of the top S & P 500 advancers. The benchmark index briefly topped the psychologically key 2,100 level and was about 2 percent below its all-time intraday high of 2,134.72. " The specter of Britain leaving the EU looks like it' s not happening, and this is a huge sigh of relief," said Kim Forrest, senior equity analyst at Fort Pitt Capital. The UK is set to vote Thursday on whether to leave the European Union. A series of polls released over the weekend showed those in favor of the UK staying in the European Union held a slight lead over the leave camp. The campaign in favor of a Brexit lost momentum after Member of Parliament Jo Cox was killed last week. The Dow Jones industrial average ended 130 points higher, with Boeing, Goldman Sachs and 3M contributing the most gains. At session highs, the index traded 271.20 points higher. " Equities may continue to rally if the vote is an official Remain on Thursday but sovereign bonds may be where the real action could be considering how stretched that rubber band is," said Peter Boockvar, chief market analyst at The Lindsey Group.
