x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Asia: Markets follow Wall St to extend rally  APR 14, 2016   11: 11 AM [HONG KONG] Asian stock markets rallied for a second straight session Thursday, tracking gains in New York where traders cheered surprisingly upbeat earnings from Wall Street titan JPMorgan Chase.  The renewed confidence saw investors shift out of the safe investment yen, which in turn helped Japan' s Nikkei chalk up another strong performance.  Analysts said a shock decision by Singapore to loosen monetary policy had also provided a lift to sentiment and sent the island state' s currency tumbling.  After Wednesday' s rally fuelled by rising oil prices and strong Chinese trade data, regional investors returned to trading floors to news that JP Morgan had posted forecast-beating first-quarter earnings.  The banking giant also said the US economy, the world' s biggest, was on a solid footing and dismissed the prospects it would go into recession this year. The news provided strong support for the financial sector, with all three main New York indexes ending more than one per cent higher.  " The fact that investor appetite for the heavily weighted banking sector looks to be returning could help see an even stronger day," Angus Nicholson, a markets analyst in Melbourne at IG Ltd., told clients.  In early trade Hong Kong was up 0.8 per cent, Shanghai added 0.4 per cent, Sydney climbed 0.7 per cent and Seoul shot up more than 1.1 per cent.

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Singapore shares open 0.9% up on Thursday APR 14, 20169: 14 AM SINGAPORE stocks opened 0.9 per cent higher on Thursday after a surprise currency easing move by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) before the opening bell and an overnight rally on Wall Street. The Straits Times Index jumped 25.79 points to 2,916.2 as at 9.00am, after the MAS said it was moving to a neutral policy stance of zero per cent appreciation of the S $ NEER (Singapore dollar nominal effective exchange rate) band.   Bank and energy-related blue chips counters were in play. OCBC up 14 cents or 1.5%, DBS up 27 cents or 1.7% and UOB up 48 cents or 2.5%

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	DBS last 12 mths was around 21.50, just one mth before the US mkt collapsed abt 600 pts in one evening.  N to me, I don' t see a crisis.  DJ already back to almost uncharted territory.  So, seems to me more like crisis  is in STI.    Was common to see DBS  around 18-20 even when eps ws lower than now.  But of course if  this mkt continues to be depressed, then dbs will also be impacted.    Just to reiterate also (I' d posted earlier) that they are quietly upping interest for some of their loans like housing n margin financing.  So, I' m figuring that profit shd continue to be well supported, even as local loan growth might be anaemic.    Wind22i      ( Date: 14-Apr-2016 08:19) Posted: Wells Fargo is one of the better banks in US. For dbs I think crossing 16 is just a matter of time if it can at least maintain its earnings per share of 1.69-1.79... U can see the short sellers and put warrant "specialist" getting wipe out..

The historical PE for banks when there is no crisis is around 13x earnings. So if it even trade at 10x P/E it shld be priced at 16.90 At current price it's still has upside of around 16.90- 15.50 ~=$1.40 So today it shld move in tandem with Dow jones financial sector for past few days is bullish due to better crude oil prices and positive/remarks from the Feds.
