Why didn't DBS halt its own share trading today before announcement? 2. Isn't $700m exposure equivalent to half of Swiber total liabilities very risky? How did DBS do its due diligence and make such decision? 3. Based on DBS statement, Swiber loan is not part of DBS bad debt provision. This shows there is lapse in DBS bad debt treatment process. Will DBS do a review on all its loan to make sure they reflect the true scenario? 4. Swiber owes DBS $700m, but close shop because a much much smaller creditor ($20m?). Is DBS not aggressive enough in recovering debt?

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Following the announcement by Swiber Holdings Ltd on 27 July 2016 that it had made an application to wind up the company, DBS would like to provide the following information in response to queries from investors and the media. DBS has a total exposure of about SGD 700 million to the Swiber group of companies, comprising loans, bonds and off-balance sheet items. As the exposure is partially secured, DBS expects to recover half of it and will provide fully for the anticipated shortfall. DBS will tap on its surplus general allowances and the net allowance charge will be lower, at about SGD 150 million. The Group' s balance sheet remains strong and there is minimal impact on its capital adequacy ratio. DBS' s 2Q results will be released on Aug 8 as scheduled. Shares in DBS closed 2.3% lower at $ 15.88 on Thursday.

Of these assets, which include bank accounts and properties, about $120 million belong to Malaysian financier  Low Taek Jho, who is better known as Jho Low. The high-profile businessman has been accused of having personal transactions with 1MDB, but has  claimed  that he is being made a scapegoat for the losses suffered by the Malaysian state fund.
