Singtel (SGX: Z74)Elsewhere, the Indian government has announced reforms to support its battered telecommunication companies (telco). Bharti Airtel, Singtel&rsquo s associate, welcomed the change. A relief package has been proposed that should ease the pressure off Bharti and allow for more sustainable growth for the sector. India&rsquo s digital economy is growing rapidly and Bharti is well-placed to be a key beneficiary, thereby benefiting Singtel as well. Singtel&rsquo s ambition is to leverage on its 5G network to boost its business and is seeking to also unlock value for shareholders through a strategic review. The Indian government will redefine what &ldquo adjusted gross revenue (AGR)&rdquo means, resulting in significantly lower AGR payments from telcos. Singtel&rsquo s CFO Arthur Lang has called this move a &ldquo game-changer&rdquo that will free up significant amounts of free cash flow for the telco. This piece of good news should relieve pressure on Bharti and also reduce the magnitude of future capital commitments from Singtel. |
