x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Stock price is arbitrary. e.g. Singtel market cap is 40.17B, net profit last quarter $574m, $2.46 stock. Starhub market cap is 2.3b, net profit last quarter $37m, $1.33 stock. If by some miracle Starhub expands and is able to raise their profit' s to Singtel' s level, the stock would shoot way beyond $2.46 (that' s 1400%+ growth btw). What we need to see from the digibank is growth and profitability prospects. All new projects need an investment phase before profitability can be seen. They' ll have to pour money to compete with other banks AND digital banks. When will it be profitible? 3 years? 5 years? 10 years? That' s the key question. It will not full stop singtel' s core business is telecommunications, not banking. So if it gets a banking license, it may branch off into some banking activities. Just like SpH core business is media. But sph has property business also. So SPH cannot expect to behave like a property counter like say City developments or CapitaLand just as Singtel cannot expect to behave like a bank whose core business is banking to support other industries. It will not full stop singtel' s core business is telecommunications, not banking. So if it gets a banking license, it may branch off into some banking activities. If the digital bank license is thought to bring in more profits, more investors will buy the stock, price will go up. 100% increase is to $5. We will not hit ten or twenty dollars a share immediately after a license is granted if ever. How does a bank work? Well you have depositors from the local community whose cash will be lent out to borrowers for an interest charge and a security pledge (like a property). Singtel has slightly outperformed sti because it underperformed over the year prior to its recovery. The change in management helped inject fresh hopes to a rejuvenated singtel. The dividend is just an icing on the cake. Many were expecting lower dividends, but singtel performed okay with a reasonable dividend paid out of underlying profits. So Singtel is generating enough cash from its core business to support its dividend policy and transform its business. Hopes for digibanking license and 5G transformation also added to the great expectations of a renewal. If these expectations are not met, then there is risk to Singtel' s share price sliding once again.
