Omicron will spread faster than we think. Everyone will eventually follow SG steps. ART test kits will be very required.

MANILA, Philippines:  DOH sets price cap for antigen test kits at P350 By: Cathrine Gonzales - Reporter / @cgonzalesINQ INQUIRER.net / 02:50 PM February 08, 2022 MANILA, Philippines &mdash The Department of Health (DOH) has set the price cap for COVID-19 antigen test kits at P350. Based on DOH Circular No. 2021-0323-B dated January 28, 2022 and released to the media on Tuesday, the price cap for a &ldquo SARS-CoV-2 antigen rapid diagnostic test kit&rdquo will be P350 from the previous P500. Meanwhile, the price cap for COVID-19 antigen rapid diagnostic testing service will be P660, inclusive of the P350 price cap for a test kit, P250 worth of operational cost, and P60 as 10-percent allowable mark-up. This was a decrease from the previous P960 total cost for the antigen testing service. &ldquo Antigen rapid diagnostic test kits subsidized or donated by the DOH and other government agencies to DOH licensed public and private health facilities and clinical laboratories shall be provided at zero cost to individuals. Only items directly procured by DOH-licensed health facilities and clinical laboratories and not provided by DOH can be charged,&rdquo the department said in its circular. &ldquo Moreover, DOH licensed health facilities and clinical laboratories may have prices lower than the prescribed price cap for antigen rapid diagnostic testing, provided that quality of services is maintained,&rdquo it added. Meanwhile, the price cap for self-administered antigen rapid diagnostic test kits is also at P350. The DOH set a price cap for self-administered antigen test kits after the Food and Drug Administration approved some brands offering the said product. The updated price caps for antigen test kits and testing services will take effect starting February 20, according to the circular. This is Singapore with 6m plus population...imagine Philippines with more than 100m population and currently only 2 approved ART test kits, of which one is solely distributed by Clearbridge right now. Singapore: Demand up for ART test kits amid surge in community cases, return to office Sellers actively working to ensure they have enough stocks some consumers note price hikes A COMBINATION of Chinese New Year festivities, more people returning to workplaces and a surge in community cases of the coronavirus have led to a surge in demand for antigen rapid test (ART) kits. Retailers said their supplies are adequate, but they are also actively working to ensure they have the necessary stocks. Prices also seem to have risen for some products, although retailers said this could be due to different levels of discounting applied. Health and beauty supplies chain Guardian has noted a doubling in demand for ART kits since mid-January. " This is significantly higher than what we observed in November and December 2021," said a spokesperson for DFI Retail Group, the unit of Dairy Farm International Holdings that operates retail brands Cold Storage, Giant and Guardian. The spokesperson said demand has gone up in the past week, with more consumers taking extra precautions and conducting self-tests before their Chinese New Year visits. In response to the demand, DFI Retail Group has been ordering more ART kits and is working with its suppliers to ensure a steady supply. The company said it is " committed to offering our customers competitive prices on these test kits, and ensuring we have enough supplies so that customers can get what they need, when they need it" . Some consumers said they have noticed an increase in prices recently. A 25-year old professional who gave her name as Janet said the cost of a box of 20 of Abbott' s Panbio antigen self-test kits rose S$10 between mid-January and Feb 6. She had previously paid S$94.00 for a box, purchased on Jan 15 via Watsons Singapore' s Shopee page. With travel plans nearing, she was looking to stock up on the kits this past week. The same box was not available on Shopee, but was going at S$104.15 on Watsons Singapore' s Lazada page. Another consumer, stocking up on Covid-19 test kits after his mother tested positive for the virus, told The Business Times that he recalled buying Standard Q ART kits from Watson " a few weeks ago" at a price slightly lower than their current unit price tag of $5.70. In response to queries from BT, a Watsons spokesperson said prices of ART kits are a " function of supply and demand globally" , and are subjected to price adjustments by suppliers. The company has also been striving to keep the prices affordable for consumers.  As for demand for ART kits, Watsons has observed that available stocks are " snapped up fast upon hitting the stores" .  " At Watsons, we monitor the trend closely and are always working with our suppliers for stocks of the ART kits to meet consumers&rsquo needs," said the spokesperson. " In anticipation of more demand for ART kits with the current situation, we have placed orders for more supplies of the ART kits." DFI Retail Group' s spokesperson said that in the past 6 months, the prices of its ART kits have " fluctuated" between 9 and 14 per cent as a result of " different promotional discounts applied" . A FairPrice spokesperson said the prices of ART kits vary based on factors such as market forces, partnership agreements and seasonality. " Regardless, the recommended selling prices of ART kits have been stable over the past 2 months. Depending on the pack size and brand, the price of a kit ranges from S$4.70 to S$5.90," said the spokesperson. " Stocks in our stores remain available, with more expected to arrive in the next two weeks. We continue to work closely with our suppliers to meet the needs of customers." Companies that have placed orders in advance said they have been unaffected by price increases. Education group EtonHouse, which orders ART kits for its employees, placed a bulk order for the kits in October last year, said a spokesperson. The company now has " enough stock" and will not have to place any more orders this year. Chocolate company Aalst Chocolate said it pre-orders its ART kits 2 months in advance. Chief executive Richard Lee said prices have largely " remained the same" at about S$4 apiece for Flowflex kits. |

DOH eyes price cap for COVID self-test kits By: Julie M. Aurelio, Tina G. Santos - @inquirerdotnetPhilippine Daily Inquirer / 05:42 AM January 27, 2022 SELF-TEST Antigen test kits provide faster results than the RT-PCR tests, considered the gold-standard in COVID-19 testing. &mdash NIñ O JESUS ORBETA MANILA, Philippines &mdash Following the Food and Drug Administration&rsquo s (FDA) approval of two self-administered COVID-19 antigen test kits, the Department of Health (DOH) said it was eyeing to release this week guidelines for the use of the kits but that it might still need a week or two before it could issue a price cap. On Monday, the FDA approved two brands of self-administered antigen test kits: Panbio COVID-19 Antigen Self-test of Abbott Laboratories Philippines, an affiliate of the American multinational company of the same name and the SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Rapid Test of Chinese company Labnovation Technologies Inc. Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Wednesday said the DOH will release a policy stating the guidelines for the use of the self-administered antigen test kits either on Thursday or Friday. She said the guidelines would include instructions on reporting results to local governments, which would then report to the DOH. &lsquo Chat box&rsquo According to Vergeire, the health agency is also exploring its current system where citizens use a &ldquo chat box&rdquo to report on the results of these self-test kits. &ldquo We are trying to look at this system if it still has the capacity so that citizens using self-administered test kits will be able to chat in their use and we can be able to get the results and have a sense of how many are being used for these self-administered test kits at home,&rdquo she said. Vergeire also said the DOH would discuss with the Department of Trade and Industry the possibility of a price cap on such products, adding that they might need one to two more weeks to study the price range before issuing a price cap for home antigen test kits. With the approval of self-administered test kits, acting presidential spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles is optimistic that the cost of reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing will go down. In December, the DOH set a price cap of P2,800 for plate-based RT-PCR tests and P2,450 for GeneXpert tests in public laboratories. The price cap for private laboratories was set at P3,360 for plate-based and P2,940 for GeneXpert tests. &ldquo Right now, we have self-administered testing kits and, with improved technologies, perhaps we might hopefully see a decrease in the cost of testing kits. If people have more options, the prices of commodities will adjust,&rdquo he added. Nograles said the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases already had two meetings on the rate of RT-PCR testing, but was amenable to have another round of talks to further lower the price cap for COVID-19 testing in the country. |

Phillippines has a population of more than 100 million...who will be the first buyers of such ART test kit? My guess will be the Numerous Business Enterprises in the Philippines..because they want their biz ops to return to normal and their workers to stay safe...ART test kit is the cheapest way to do so. Singapore is a good example.    Don' t forget, ART test kit is done on a daily basis. Just imagine the business opportunities awaiting for Clearbridge, who is the only importer of ONE of the two approved ART kit in the country.    |
