Stop loss is impt esp in stocks when their fa dun justify the price. Eg. 70c for stats. Thats like almost twice the nav for a coy with koyak fa.
If u think that the authority should step in and prevent ppl from selling below ipo price.. then i tink they should also set a ceiling for price for stocks that are above ipo price. Look at old chang kee. Ipo 20c. Now alr close to $1. By setting a floor price. Theres 0 risk for the retailers and hence. What they can do is only to issue warnings to those analyst who anyhow give TP. -_- |

Quite true. But selling at below IPO price don't seem to be fair to the retail investors. For example, company can issue IPO based on the valuations but when the big fish dumps the share and if company is not doing well, then sell below IPO, would it be fair to the investors!
As such, shouldn't the above mentioned process, from valuation to IPO to issue shares to shares consolidation to closing shop, be reviewed to protect the retail investors. Just my personal views

This place seem t enjoy buy high n sell low.  Sell POSB  1.6 bil.  Buy Dao Heng 9.6 bil  n write off 1 bil.  Now sell Stats low?  Different entities, but seem to be same kind of minds.

niche market. Rip SG.

Oh, and I just read from BT that there are nine China SOE stocks here - which gives investors a  real choice of gems here.  So, why need to hook up to HKS link?

Regarding Vard' s facts, you are correct as I was quoting off the top of my mind. As for stats case, I' m just providing an alternative opinion so readers can weigh and decide their own risk appetite :) TH may jolly well reject offer and price may drop after that because stock market is pretty unpredictable. Just my 2c.

By the way Vard' s offer price was 122.  Anyway, don' t recall price falling < offer price while offer was open.  In Stats' case, even before actual  offer, although the offeror has disclosed what it intends to do (45c+-), price already fall below.  Counting the Taiwan ops, today' s price is abt 10% below.  Qn is not whether there is any risk, rather what level at this juncture.  Level of risk has a time horizon.  At this point, with a high level of knowledge of what' s gonna happen, one wld have reasonably assessed that chances of holding out for at least 45 is pretty high.  So, I remain convinced that price is being deliberately pressed down.

Anyone remembered the Vard takeover bid? New majority shareholder volunteered to buy vard at $1.28 when it was trading at $1.37+. Nobody could believe or understand why would the price drop below offer price. Takeover did fail but price continued dropping because of deteriorating business (ie ex-shareholder cashed out at the peak)  So... buying now still have risk. TH may reject bid but who knows if the price will continue dropping after that.. hmm.. |
