 Alert Admin 		Well said. Yes the share count is increased. Hence you will see downward share price movement post XB. But share holder equity is maintained or granted via the forward dividend of 2.16/share being allocated to the newer shares too!

Advantages of Bonus Shares Issue:
-Increases capital without diluting current shareholders' holdings
-Shareholders have an option to convert the shares into cash.

Singapore Company Poised to Report Higher Earnings: Can Their Share Prices Rise Further

DBS Group (SGX: D05)



DBS needs no introduction as it is Singapore& rsquo s largest bank by market capitalisation.

The lender reported a    strong set of earnings  for 2023 as high interest rates boosted its net interest income.

Total income jumped 22% year on year to S$20.2 billion while operating profit climbed 29% year on year to S$12.1 billion.

The bank reported a record net profit of S$10 billion for 2023, up 23% year on year.

A quarterly    dividend  of S$0.54 was declared, up 26% from the S$0.42 paid out a year ago.

DBS also declared a 1-for-10 bonus issue with the bonus shares also qualifying for the same amount of dividend per share.

For 2024, CEO Piyush Gupta has maintained guidance for net interest income to be around 2023 levels.

The US Federal Reserve also held rates steady and is signalling three rate cuts for the remainder of this year once it has greater confidence that    inflation  is heading down to 2%.

He also expects DBS& rsquo s fee income growth to be in the double-digit range.

Should these come to pass, it will imply that DBS can continue to grow its net profit for 2024.

Indeed, the bonus shares are backed by real fund.
However, I think there will still be some downwards adjustment to price.
For many years, we have seen share price dropping after XD.
Many times the drop were more than the payout.

 Alert Admin 		There seems to be some confusion on the bonus share.   Note that this is NOT a stock split (e.g. Goggle 20-for-1).   In a stock split, only the number of shares are increased with no change in shareholder equity.   Therefore, the value per share is adjusted accordingly.  

For bonus share, these shares are funded by the company (e.g. using retained earnings).   The bonus share is thus backed by equity dollar and the total shareholder equity increased.   Therefore, the value per share is retained.   Of course, market might still react and we might still see a drawdown in market value per share.

 Alert Admin 		DBS expects that the annualised ordinary dividend will be S$2.16 per share over the enlarged share base, a 24% increase from 2023.

DBS chief executive Piyush Gupta expects that there will be more opportunities to return capital to shareholders, given the bank' s ample excess capital.
This was even as the bank has proposed to raise dividend payouts and issue bonus shares to increase the pace of capital returns to its shareholders,
in its fourth-quarter results released on Wednesday (Feb 7).
Gupta said at a media briefing on the results: " We decided to go for a bonus issue just because it gives certainty into the future.
It builds it into the base, and gives some confidence that this dividend will be there."
Barring unforeseen circumstances, the annualised ordinary dividend going forward will be $2.16 per share over the enlarged share base,
which represents a 24 per cent increase from $1.92 per share for financial year 2023.
