Singapore economy grows 4.3% in Q1 in line with forecasts FRI, APR 13, 2018 - 8:00 AM SINGAPORE' S economy expanded 4.3 per cent in the first three months of 2018 on the back of strong manufacturing growth, according to Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) advance estimates out on Friday. The manufacturing sector continued to be the key growth driver in the first quarter, expanding 10.1 per cent, faster than the 4.8 per cent growth in the preceding three months. All clusters within the sector saw growth, with the biggest contributors being the electronics and precision engineering clusters. Services, which make up two-thirds of the economy, grew 3.8 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter, slightly up from the 3.5 per cent growth in the fourth quarter. A) if some mini war broke out due to Russia response to US bombing on Syria ....then can expect market to dip badly except for oil Or trade tarrifs get more serious .which can be happen ( more possible ) B) on the bridge side...which many hoping for esp investor .. 1. Another set of good result ( given in my opionion ...its how good ? Base on Q1 growth, increase housing loans NIM and asset under manage) 2. 2018 DBS is giving 1.80 dividend ( 90c for H1) ....and base on good growth .....2018 result cant be bad/ but might not be comparable to 2017 3. Oil if rise to $80 and above wld be very positive to DBS ( potential of write back for $$ allocated NPL ) 4. Major catalyst ( yes) wld be China opening its financial sector ....DBS is alrady one leg there ...any more  ? Baring any crisis ( one madman shoting down another war plane etc) .....our banks shld hv continue growth Personally for long term investment ....I see positive growth . Happy investing.
