SINGAPORE (Apr 30): For a lender with a strong deposit-taking franchise, nothing is more pleasing than when interest rates start climbing. Just ask Piyush Gupta. The CEO of DBS Group Holdings, Singaporeans&rsquo default bank for parking cash, is basking in the warm glow of higher rates. A 9-basis-point expansion in net interest margin from a year earlier drove return on equity in the first quarter to 13%, the highest in a decade. Yes, funding costs on deposits rose by 15 basis points, results released on Monday show. But the yield on almost every lending opportunity &ndash trade finance, other customer loans, or just placing funds with another lender &ndash firmed up even more. By the way when a director or CEO sell or buy a company shares ...it does not always means it is over value or under. ( further did they sell ALL their holdings or just a small % for some personal reasons ) THE TIME FRAME for that investment is always an important consideration. Current dividend yield is still aro 4% base on DBS able to maintian or even increase its dividend over the next few years...( w $5B profit ) Base on its business growth and been SEA largest bank ( AUM and wealth mgt growing strongly ) an investor has his own point add more even at $30 . Of  course for short term trades  even at $10 ...it wld depend on many factors over the next few days/weeks. Therefore there are always MANY argument on right timing to invest bec the TIME FACTOR is not specify . When stock goes from 10 to 20 to 30  ...it has double .....but has the market and its business change . if the !.3/1,5 times  book justify for this bank as an investment over longer term ......only the individual for his/own profolio can justify. Loans through the domestic banking unit - which tracks lending in all currencies, but mainly reflects Singapore-dollar lending - stood at S$661.60 billion last month compared to S$627.95 billion in March, 2017, according to preliminary data from the Monetary Authority of Singapore released on Monday. Compared to the previous month, bank lending rose 1.6 per cent  from S$650.93 billion in February.
