Singapore banks kept at ' accumulate' on loans growth, SIBOR rise and improving O& G outlook 04/06/18, 10:21 am SINGAPORE (June 4): Phillip Securities is maintaining the Singapore banking sector at &ldquo accumulate&rdquo given loans growth remains healthy locally and in Hongkong while the continuing rise in SIBOR (Singapore Interbank Offered Rate) and SOR (Swap Offer Rate) should keep NIM (Net Interest Margins) elevated. In the meantime, SIBOR and SOR to continue their upward trend. Three-month SIBOR crept up in May to near 10-year highs. Tin expects the Singapore banks&rsquo NIMs to be on a gradual upward trend given expectations of three or more Fed rate hikes this year. This means NIM expansion will provide the main share price catalyst for the next few quarters. Despite the 40bps increase in SIBOR this year, mortgage loans growth has remained resilient at 4.4% y-o-y. Therefore, Tin does not expect new mortgage loans to be adversely affected by the gradual increase in SIBOR. https://www.theedgesingapore.com/singapore-banks-kept-accumulate-loans-growth-sibor-rise-and-improving-og-outlook |

Hong Kong banks, the 21st century is knocking: Andy Mukherjee MON, JUN 04, 2018 - 7:28 AM Rival Singapore, which has been faster in emulating China' s success with quick-response-code-based payments, will have a national QR code standard later this year. Meanwhile, Singapore' s largest lender, DBS Group Holdings Ltd, runs the world' s biggest banking application programming interface platform for third-party developers. Results are starting to show in the lender' s return on equity: Every DBS digital customer is three times as valuable to the bottom line as somebody who walks into a branch. https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/banking-finance/hong-kong-banks-the-21st-century-is-knocking-andy-mukherjee   |

Our Big-3 Banks are the 3 pillars holding up the Singapore Ship. Even if just one pillar breaks, the entire ship will trumble down to earth. The Big-3 is Singapore.  Singapore is the Big-3. Nothing in SG matters more than them.    Nothing in SGX is stronger than them. Enough said.

Europe cld be in a mess if Italy falls/ loans fm major banks in Germany France etc are huge. Greece and turkey are close behind too. This Trump is going back on his words on trade halt w China/ $50B tarrif cld cause china to act too. Msia huge debt cant be clear so easily if at all ( Thsi big M cant perform magic as he wish / he can ONLY bluff his way more....nver trust him / that taxi man should have send him to the toilet instead of the kitchen / which make him unhappy w Spore years ago....wow a man like him can remember such a petty issue w a driver tells a lot abt him ! Jus hope he wont last that long ) So be careful with the market ....watch closely what develops over the next few days.

Both Italy political and U.S.-China trade damping the market. OCBC has breaks below its current trend support line @ 12.65.  But both DBS and UOB haven' t.  Trend support for both @27.60.  Currently, DOW future down, oil under pressure.  If DOW drops another few hundreds point tonight, tmr might see both DBS and UOB testing 27.60. |

I was keying in furiously the second market opened. But seems there was a system lag, my realtime quotes kept standing still. In the end, kept chasing the price till managed to add more at 28.53.  Record earnings plus 60c divvy in 2Q report is all but a certainty.

DBS share price had been lower than UOB since it went XD. But this morning, it has topped UOB' s share price.  A very optimistic sign that boom time is back for DBS again. |

DBS to build and implement Carousell' s mobile wallet CarouPay Integrated payment system within Carousell app will allow buyers to make payments without using third-party fund transfer platforms or meet-ups 28 MAY 2018 - 05:50Singapore SINGAPORE' S largest bank, DBS, has emerged as more than just a financial investor in Carousell. DBS will work with the online classifieds startup to build and implement the latter' s new mobile wallet, CarouPay, The Business Times has learnt. This comes as DBS announced last week that it was a new investor in Carousell, having participated in the startup' s US$85 million Series C funding round. DBS is also no stranger to mobile wallets - it launched its own such wallet, DBS PayLah!, in 2014. A DBS spokesman said: " We are supportive of CarouPay and will work with Carousell to find ways to make the checkout process more seamless." CarouPay - set to launch in June - is an integrated payment system within the Carousell app. It will allow buyers to make payments to sellers without having to use third-party fund transfer platforms or rely on meet-ups to complete transactions. DBS has launched three online marketplaces since the Monetary Authority of Singapore proposed last year to make it easier for banks to conduct or invest in non-financial businesses such as e-commerce and e-payment platforms. The three marketplaces are: DBS Car Marketplace, a direct seller-to-buyer car marketplace in partnership with sgCarMart and Carro DBS Electricity Marketplace, which allows households to switch to other retailers following the liberalisation of the retail electricity market in Singapore and Property Marketplace, a platform that connects tenants and landlords. http://www.sgsme.sg/news/money/dbs-build-and-implement-carousells-mobile-wallet-caroupay |

Luckily our local banks are prudent and smart................... Restructuring of Hyflux is negative for creditors: Moody' s FRI, MAY 25, 2018 - 11:31 AM HYFLUX' S restructuring, which may include  a combination of haircuts, debt maturity extension, or interest rates adjustments, could lead to financial losses for creditors,  Moody' s Investors Service said in a research report released on Friday.    On May 22, the  water project developer had applied for court protection to facilitate  the restructuring of its S$1.5 billion debt. The company also announced that it plans to skip the upcoming coupon interest payment on its S$500 million perpetual securities.    Analysts from Moody' s noted that Hyflux' s creditors include about 30 financial institutions,  most of which are Singapore  branches and subsidiaries of foreign banks and that these  institutions, along with other investors could suffer loses on their Hyflux exposures.    " The company has a large amount of secured debt, which heightens the risk to its unsecured creditors," Moody' s said.    As the credit-ranking firm points out, Hyflux' s loans and borrowings are dominated by banks - 68 per cent of Hyflux' s debt is unsecured, of which 51 per cent is in the form of unsecured bank loans.    In addition,  Maybank Singapore and its related entities  are likely to be one of Hyflux' s key secured creditors, Moody' s noted. In 2013,  Maybank had agreed to provide an 18-year, S$720 million financing facility to a Hyflux project called Tuaspring, a desalination and electricity generation plant in Singapore. " The loss-making Tuaspring project has become the centre of Hyflux& rsquo s problems because low electricity prices have dampened its electricity generation revenue. At the same time, Tuaspring& rsquo s desalinated water output will continue to be in demand in Singapore, which still relies on imported water to meet its total water needs."   On this note, Moody' s analysts believe that potential losses to Maybank should be limited.    " We assume that most or all of Maybank& rsquo s exposure is secured by the Tuaspring project or related cash-flow receivables, or both. This should mitigate losses for Maybank in a worst-case scenario where Hyflux goes into bankruptcy," the analysts said.    https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/companies-markets/restructuring-of-hyflux-is-negative-for-creditors-moodys |
