Just imagine paying the CEO of SMRT $2.2m for an operating job in a monopolistic company!!!!! This is a big JOKE!. Desmond Kuek came out to boast about improving the operations 1 week ago in the ST and afterwards a few days later, we have a MAJOR breakdowns during peak hours on BOTH N-S and E-W lines. Till today, nobody have an idea what cause the break downs.Frankly, whichever joker you put a as CEO of SMRT, the commuters will always be there. What we want is a 100% reliable and not overly congested transport system in a country where COE is $60K! |

So many generals parachuted into GLCs and ministries and paid millions. Every time, you hear the same excuse, &ldquo We are extremely concerned&rdquo , the usual you will hear from the transport minister. And look at the NOL, the sinking ship, after so many years, it is still sinking. The SMRT sample is classic, let me tell you why. The Japan MRT, the CEO is paid a fraction of what SMRT is paying DQ and yet there is no failure throughout the year. The China MRT, the CEO is paid a fraction of Japan MRT CEO, the failures are not even worth mentioning. These foreign train systems carry traffic many times what our local SMRT is carrying and yet their failure rate is nothing compared to the circus we have in Singapore.   |

now everyone is looking at how much SMRT will be fine and if it will impact its books. The speculation will have some price violatility~   I bet the mgmt will also come out to say some hawkish statement thereafter. |

train loss power signals SMRT also loss power to go up probably, the dividend grab is not meaningful for now. maybe long term maybe no dividend as now the problem already amplified probably. power problem is very diffcult to handle as power surge may damage the cables thoughout the SMRT systems probably. maintain sell on this counter SMRT. |

it' s a dilemna.. they cannot make losses, ' cos they are listed company & they need to account to shareholders.. since they are monopoly, so they will be able to play with the fares to ensure that they continue to earn money.. moreover, ah gong temasek is big shareholder inside smrt.. so indirectly, we are paying " taxes" to our government and contribute money to the govt funds.. they are just striking a balance to ensure the rising  fares does not cause too much public displeasure.. if no one complain about breakdowns or rising fare, i can say that we would have gotten leech on even more and they would happily approve more rising fares..

They should have earning enough for the pass 35years! Taking a few 100 millions out for upgrade shouldn't be a problem for them. Even the next 2 to 3 years they operate at loss without profit also still a gain as compare to the pass 35 years of profits. Also I think for every break down should cut the top management pay or variable component 5- 10% to make them look into the serious problem. If not they don't feel the pain. Only used mouth to say "understand commuters feelings'". | ||

..... Green and Red lines are 35 years old now when our cars need to scrap within 10 years, it is high time for a total up-grading... furthermore, management is top down instead of listening to the ground that makes things more unpredictable... should go for preventive maintenance and proactive maintenance instead of breakdown maintenance... do take care if tender only awarded to cheapest will ruin the effort... More breakdown to come? Hope not     |

What a "good" present for SG50 from SMRT! It's a ashamed that every now and then got breakdown. This is the worst so far. They really got to put in more effort and budget more for maintenance & routine inspection.

too many chefs (chiefs) spoil the soup.  I am also wondering how easy is it to hack into the electrical system on the train. Did they even consider if its a terrorism act/ |
