The fish catch last week for fishmeal has almost collapsed from 140,000 tons to 27,000 tons.. going ahead,  lesser fish will be landed until the El-Nino is over.  Over in China,  the Fishmeal price remained stable.

The hike in fishmeal prices due to El-Nino and other reasons is not actually a blessing.    More companies are now putting in researches to find more alternative food sources to satisfy the increasing demands in aquaculture and other animal farms.    So far soya bean has been used as an alternative but researchers are now looking at insects and algae mix etc as other alternative feed for substainability. http://www.feednavigator.com/R-D/Skretting-looks-to-insects-and-algae-as-fishmeal-alternatives   |

They may not want to release the bad news but from various other reports such as those  about Chile' s fishmeal operation suffering 27% declines in fishmeal export in the 1st 4 months of 2014,  one can easily judge how Copeinca will perform...the 2nd half could be worst.

Yeap...read from some report that CF may have stock up fishmeal in the anticipation of the possible coming El Nino... But isn' t this good tactical move by them? they forsee difficulty and plan for an escape route ahead (i guess its rather subjective in how one look at it.)... In previous reports, it is stated that they will be getting back some money that they for paid for the pollock... hopefully it will be able to ease their liquidity issue which most ppl are concern of in the upcoming quarter.... Personally i feel that news that is make known to the public is rather limited.. therefore is quite hard to gauge if they are doing good or bad.... but given their experience in this business, im keeping my finger cross that they are taking calculated risk when they started acquisiting such a BIG fish... cheers... anyway nice reading the articles that you have contributed... thought mostly negative but i guess its kinda the truth for now ...hahaha... enjoy...

Let' s us refresh our memory. Copeinca, China Fishery: Can oil and water mix? August 22, 2013, 3:23 pm
China Fishery Group' s takeover of Copeinca will bring together two companies seen as worlds apart from each other, industry  players toldUndercurrent News. On paper, China Fishery' s takeover of Copeinca looks straightforward, and has everything to please investors. Combined, the companies will form one of the world' s biggest fishmeal producers and will have the highest share of Peruvian fishing quotas, trumping current leader Tecnologica de Alimentos Somos (TASA) with 16.9% of quotas in the north. In terms of exports, they would jointly control just under 20% of exports, putting them only narrowly behind TASA' s 22.75% (based on 2012 figures). Copeinca will help China Fishery diversify away from its core business,  Russian pollock, which is facing uncertainty  due to political threats in Russia,  and will make China Fishery' s finances look healthier than they do now, in part by increasing its cash flow. " The acquisition, if successful, will improve China Fishery' s business profile, especially if it is able to merge it with its existing fishmeal operations in Peru,"   Fitch Ratings wrote in April.  &ldquo The fishmeal business carries least operational risk among China Fishery' s three major business segments." In turn China Fishery, at least in theory, will provide Copeinca with further access to its biggest market, China. But behind the scenes, the picture is not as straightforward. China Fishery' s operations in Peru could not be more different than Copeinca' s activities, sources told  Undercurrent. " Everybody here is questioning how this merger will be done," said a source in the industry in Peru. " China Fishery and Copeinca have very different policies on everything," he said. China Fishery now boey stable, so far got any good news meh. Our dear bro, Stockpicker already posted so many articles for your reading pleasure. If got good news, Jam and Butter also will start posting and Ice also will start speaking long, long, long .... Someone last minute giak giak buy 26 lots @ 0.37 UP. Tomorrow ... Sell, Sell, Sell.  Don' t believe just watch and see. Woah woah woah .... enjoy. Maybe you should wait for Christmas ...... hahahaha

It was reported in Undercurrent giving the following picture for Pac Andes:
The fishmeal operation has raked in HKD$ 1,587 mil or SGD$ 257 mil.   That is a sizable amount to offset the losses in Pollock business. These are actual revenues.  The profits after taking away the operating cost especially the finance and increase in Administrative cost,  just like Pacific Andes,  China Fishery will likely to   show a profit with reduced earning figures.     Also bearing in mind that in the Undercurrent report,  the company was quoted to have said that reduced in 31% profit in Pac Andes was due to value losses due to derivative financial instrument and this was not quite true.     It was due to the heavy financial and administrative costs.    If China Fishery can show a better earning figure,    it is like to be due to the Chinese stocking up the fishmeal during end of 2013 in anticipating the price hike due to El-Nino.  But this will also mean that the sale figures for 2nd half would not be good because the catch so far in 2014 is less than half of 2013 and the peak price in 2014 is 20% less than peak in 2013. We will really have to wait to see China Fishery&rsquo s result in early July for further analysis.   |

weird.... the acquisition is to help reduce the impact of the losses due to the termination of their pollock biz...it has done its part as stated in the article that you quote....but y are you implying it is due to the acquisition that is causing the selling off.... dun confuse le....if you are trying to say the debt from the acquisition is rocking the investor confidence then just state clearly....  Yea...enjoy, enjoyed and am still enjoying....hahahaha....

Really appreciate your contribution for all the articles but i dun quite get your point...your previous undercurrent article states that the peruvian fishmeal ops reduces the dive due to the pollock business... isn' t that a good thing and what Copeinca is acquisted for? -  to replace russian pollock as their main revenue generator... so it is kind of an evident that their  agenda is  met but maybe not as good as first expected... untill the day they found a more profitable way in dealing with their anchorvy like what has been mentioned again and again - for direct human consumption, we just gonna accept the reduced profit margin for now....lol.... At the moment  this fish indeed has loads of negative news surrounding  it... mainly is the El Nino phenomenon that  is  likely to take place. However according to most of the report that was mentioned here, El Nino takes place once every few years. Thus the financial result may be dragged down now... but it may also recover in the future when things are in its favour...Moreover i dun think everyone is expecting CF to give instant success results right after the acquisition of Copeinca... unless you are contra-ing ....so just give  CF some time to digest the big fish it has eaten la...... Cheers to all vested ... including myself....haha...

Long Long Long show why Long. I said tomorrow Sell, Sell, Sell .... surrounding news is so bad,    Fishmeal ops offset big dive in Pacific Andes&rsquo H1 pollock supply revenues
June 25, 2014, 9:53 am
Pacific Andes International Holdings  said it will consider selling non-core assets and help  management rationalize capacity in its plants in Europe, as the company&rsquo s pre-tax profit fell by nearly a third in the first six months of its current fiscal year. The 31% drop to HDK 325 million was not operational, but mainly due to a &ldquo reduced gain in fair value changes from derivative financial instruments&rdquo , said the company in its report. On the other hand, both gross profit and revenues increased, as higher earnings from its Peruvian fishmeal operations offset big drops from its pollock contract business. The Singapore-listed company saw its pollock contract revenue plummet by 53% to HKD 821m in the six months until March 31, 2014, a result of the company&rsquo s termination of its long-term supply agreements. This was offset by a more than six-fold increase in revenues from its fishmeal operations in Peru, which earned HKD 1.587 bn in revenues&ndash up from HDK 248m &mdash   thanks to a recovery in Peru&rsquo s anchovy quota in 2013. The company&rsquo s fleet operations also increased revenues by 29% to HKD 128m, taking Pacific Andes&rsquo total revenues for the period up by 20%, to HKD 2.536bn  (see table below).   |

The report was from Undercurrent.  Need to point out that 1H 2014 referred to results reported ending Mar 2014   also the lost of 31% pretax profit more referred to increase in financial cost (add of HKD$130 mil and Admin cost (add of HKD$45mil) and not due to value changes in derivative financial instrument.  Expected the finance cost and admin cost will weight down the profits of Pacific Andes and China Fish going ahead.

Stockpicker, maybe you elaborate or comment on the statement " Pacific Andes has pre-tax profit fell by 31% to HDK 325 million.  They claimed it was due to value changes from derivative financial instrument"
