It was only a matter of time Asia will overtake them........with Japan as exception as they still prefer to be known as the Westerners of the East. Their star is getting dimmer each day due to the way they manage their economy.  While most Asian countries welcome investors with open arms, Japan stick by it' s traditional roots. They seem like an open society but in actual fact they are not.  While the rest of Asia continue to acheive new growth for the past 10-15 years, the rest of the world are playing catch up.  Which is why US keeps painting a ugly picture of China which most of us already know, as they are afraid China will one day overtake them. Come up with crap sanctions and so on.  As you can see China' s One Belt, One Road runs from North and South Asia to Middle East / Africa to Europe. US have no share in it, which is why they are pretty sore about it but the rest of the countries welcome China' s  initiative. Travelling to Europe will be so much easier, faster and safer with HSR for the Chinese. Can you imagine the mega explosion of rail networks along the Silk Road all the way Portugal and South Africa? This is not a dream but that' s the future of connecting more than 6 billion people across 3 continents.  This is why Japan, Korea and Taiwan will be thinking really hard (especially Taiwan and Japan as they are not land connected to China) on their reliance with US is still a good thing. Countries rely on economy to growth and not going to war. Without economy growing, people will be suffering. No countries wish to go on war. So, Asia is getting smarter each every other day as they know growth in economy is the future and not going to war which our big brother always try to incite. China will never start a war as that' s not what they want. What they have are people and vast lands. Land to build new structures and people to grow them. To me, every country should work together. I would not say China is all good but it' s all about balance. They too know their own weakness as no country on this planet can self rely by themselves.

Maybank KE sees further upside for Singtel as recovery is underway

MAYBANK Kim Eng sees further upside on telco Singtel as recovery is underway, driven by a projected upswing from Indian associate Bharti Airtel in fiscal 2022.

The Indian telecommunications sector is undergoing a structural shift and is benefitting from a surge in data usage, the research team said. Bharti Airtel, in particular, has outpaced its peers across all operating metrics, gaining market share from 2G to 4G conversion.

The research house said there is " deep value" in the stock, which is backed by a 5.1 per cent yield. The research team maintained its " buy" call on the stock and its sum-of-the-parts-based target price of S$2.88.

Shares of Singtel were trading S$0.02 or 0.8 per cent higher at S$2.47 as at 10.30am on Wednesday.

" The market is ascribing almost zero value to Singtel' s core business in Singapore and Australia," the brokerage said. It estimates that a further monetisation of Singtel' s assets could unlock an additional S$0.40 per share. Assets include Optus Tower, Amobee and Trustwave.

Meanwhile, in Thailand, the scope for a higher dividend payout ratio provides a dividend upside for Singtel, Maybank KE noted.

Monetising 5G - commercial use cases, not just providing network infra.
SINGAPORE - Businesses in Singapore will now be able to tap a new $30m government fund to test and adopt 5G solutions, as the country pushes ahead in its 5G drive. The fund is in addition to a previous $40m grant under the Infocomm Media Development Authority's (IMDA) 5G Innovation Programme rolled out in 2019. Similar to the earlier grant, successful applicants will receive up to 70 per cent of the costs for their projects. But they will now need to show plans for commercialisation. The application window for the previous fund closed last May. The Straits Times understands that most of the money has been disbursed. The impetus for the new fund is the imminent launch of Singapore's two nationwide 5G networks, which will have to cover at least half of the island by the end of next year, said IMDA chief executive Lew Chuen Hong on Wednesday (Jan 20). "With the previous fund we wanted to be an early adopter (of 5G) and kickstart small-scale pilots. But now that 5G is in the process of rolling out, the emphasis is on driving commercial adoption by actual companies in actual use cases," Mr Lew added. Minister for Communications and Information S. Iswaran announced the new grant on Wednesday at Pasir Panjang Terminal, where a 5G trial involving automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and rubber tyred gantry cranes has been ongoing since 2019. The 5G port trial is a collaboration between telcos M1 and Singtel, and PSA Singapore and the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). It is among seven 5G use cases that have previously received funding. Currently, four of about 30 driverless AGVs in Pasir Panjang Terminal run on 5G to move cargo within the port area. PSA is working towards the goal of operating more than 2,000 AGVs concurrently in the upcoming Tuas Megaport with the increased bandwidth that 5G offers in comparison to 4G, which only allows the operation of about 300-400 AGVs at the same time. There is also less lag time between when commands are issued over the network to the vehicles and when the vehicles respond. This is due to the lower latency of 5G networks. "This visit to PSA is a very vivid example of how 5G will generate not just productivity gains but also new kinds of applications," said Mr Iswaran. "And I want to put out a call to all our potential partners to come forward and work with us, because ultimately the technology must yield tangible opportunities for our companies and our people." Other 5G use cases include a cloud gaming trial between Singtel and Razer that began in October 2019, and a smart manufacturing tie-up between M1, IBM and Samsung announced last May. On Wednesday, M1, tech firm and automotive supplier Continental Automotive Singapore and JTC Corporation also announced that they will be starting trials of autonomous mobile robots that ride on 5G networks for last-mile delivery of food and goods. The trials will be carried out at the Jurong Innovation District. |

Singtel is the only blue chip that is laggard. All other blue chips have already soared to great height. Many of them are already at pre-covid levels. Buy Singtel for the potential upside to $3. |
