http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/m1-starhub-to-look-into-further-sharing-of-mobile-infrastructure/3433406.html   if this sharing of infrastructure can materialize...then its helps to lower the operating cost of both M1 and Starhub..... Any concrete actions likely take 12 to 18 mths before cost savings got reflected in the P& L ?  Good step in the right direction to compete with upcoming TPG in 2018   |

It is always more difficult to predict upside than downside. As long as they are people willing to buy and hold, the price can achieved. Personally I think current price is already expensive, but I would not be surprised if the price hit $2.2 in short term.

If better than expected results, there will be renewed hope. Else may trigger further downward pressure. I believe the share price also partly supported by hope of takeover now. | ||||

I would like to correct my previous post: It was not Karen Teo who sold 60,000 shares on 13 Dec 2016. It was Karen Kooi, the CEO of M1. The number of shares sold by Karen Kooi on that day was 100,000   shares, not 60,000. http://infopub.sgx.com/Apps?A=COW_CorpAnnouncement_Content& B=AnnouncementLast12Months& F=0IMSXHYY2FH1KG49& H=31920a811c3a2961e3c7f0083bfca8689f2dfa8a21a907996aa0db70d11b9dd6

I' ve made an observation which I find concerning, was wondering if anyone with experience can share their two cents. Full year Financial Results for 2013, 2014 and 2015 were released on 20 Jan 2014, 19 Jan 2015 and 18 Jan 2016 respectively. This coincides consistently with the 3rd Monday of January every year.  Should the full year financial results for 2016 be released on the the 3rd Monday of January 2017, it should then fall on 16 Jan 2017. Instead, it will only be announced on 24 Jan 2017, an 8 days delay compared to the last 3 years. I also noted that Karen Teo, who according to the M1 Management page is the Director of Legal Services, sold 60,000 ordinary shares on 13th December 2016. According to M1 Corporate Governance page: SECURITIES TRANSACTIONS
(Listing Manual Rule 1207(19)) The Group has issued a Code for Dealings in M1 Shares (M1 Code) for the guidance of Directors, management and other officers. The M1 Code, which is based on the SGX-ST Listing Rule 1207(19) with respect to dealings in securities, stipulates that Directors, management and other officers of the Group who have access to price-sensitive and confidential information are not permitted to deal in the Company&rsquo s shares during the periods commencing two weeks before the announcement of the Group&rsquo s first and third quarter results and one month before the announcement of the Group&rsquo s half and full year results and ending on the date of the announcement of such results and when they are in possession of price-sensitive and confidential information, in accordance with the laws of insider trading. The M1 Code also includes the prohibition that an officer should not deal in the Company&rsquo s shares on short-term considerations. The M1 Code is incorporated as part of the Group&rsquo s Human Resource Manual and is available on the Intranet accessible by all staff. A reminder is also circulated to Directors, management and other officers every quarter before the commencement of the period during which dealings in shares are prohibited and to those with access to price-sensitive and confidential information.   This means that should the release of FR 2017 be consistent with past 3 years and fall on the 3rd Monday of January 2017, it would have brought Karen Teo' s ' Sell' transaction to only 3 days outside of the blackout period. While it is still very much outside of the stipulated blackout period since this years FR release is much later than previous years, isn' t it still a little too close? Do Directors really only have access to price-sensitive and confidential information pertaining to the full years results 1 month before its release? Disclosure: I am particularly concerned about M1 as I am vested in its shares currently. |

There is a time to invest and also a time to divest (rebalance). I have seen stock rised and go back to their starting price again after a period of 3 to 5 years simply because of bad business acumen, strategy, or diversification from their core business.   One really needs to stay close to the business aspect of the stock invested if one intends to be a long term investor so to make those crucial decision to stay vested or not. |

Many analyst TP for m1 at $1.78 for a good reason. Real low volume with short term trader jumping in for quick buck. Suffering selldown now.   |

i strongly suggest any one want to buy M1 now to fully understand the accounting practise and its impact first. On hind sight, M1 ceo made the right decision to sell share earlier.

http://www.fool.sg/2016/12/08/the-state-of-the-mobile-industry-8-insights-from-m1-ltds-management/ An article from the Motley Fool which catches snippets of the latest Q3 2016 M1 earnings brief. The mobile services made up close to two-thirds of M1' s operating revenue. And the mobile services has seen a slight decline for 9M 2016 as compared to 9M 2015. It seems that there is a change in consumer behaviour which shifted from using traditional mobile services such as international calls and SMS to over-the-top (OTT) services such as WhatsApp services. This resulted in a decline in revenue from traditional mobile services. On the same note, the data usage per month per customer this year has seen a slight increase over previous year' s usage. This may indicate a trend of changing consumer behaviour from traditional mobile services to OTT services though it is still too early to be conclusive. Also, the data offerings are competitively priced plus the lower roaming revenue have resulted in a decline of 5% in post-paid revenue q-o-q. M1 chief marketing officer mentioned that the data offerings in the market now are indeed competitively priced as compared to maybe half a year ago. Data usage is on the rise and the competition in this area for data offerings is also heating up according to M1 chief marketing officer.  Pls note that the information in this article only provides some insights on what M1 is currently experiencing in its business operating environment especially the mobile service segment. It is not conclusive of the future performance of its business. As always, pls dyodd and continue to monitor the progress of the company.  |

This is something new to me. M1 treats iphone sales differently from Singtel and Starhub, which explains its higher margin.     Guess which telco would suffer the most should iPhone sales continue to fall
Only one use fair value accounting for the iOS phones. After much excitement with the release of iPhone 7 months ago, some analysts are seeing its sales to start dwindling. Citing KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a report from  9to5Mac  said iPhone shipment volume is forecast to decline to 40m-50m units in 1Q17, lower than the 51.2m units in 1Q16. If this happens, then which among Singapore' s telcos would bear the most burden? According to DBS Vickers Securities, M1 would endure the most impact. " M1 is the only telco in Singapore to use fair value accounting for iPhones and hence its revenue will be more adversely impacted in the face of slowing iPhone sales," DBS noted. It explained that M1 had accrued handset revenue of $67m in 3Q16, which will continue to adversely impact is service revenue over the next 2-3 years. " This will be on top of declines in voice and SMS revenues due to cannibalisation from Over-the-top (OTT) players and increasing popularity of SIM-only plans pressuring postpaid average revenue per user (ARPU), which will continue to shrink service revenues of the industry," DBS stated. - See more at: http://sbr.com.sg/telecom-internet/news/guess-which-telco-would-suffer-most-should-iphone-sales-continue-fall#sthash.ojH0wWC2.dpuf |
