x 1   x 0  Alert Admin	Market fears prompt liner giant Hapag-Lloyd to slash costs by $1bn over next 18 months.  Amid ongoing uncertainty in the container shipping sector, German carrier Hapag-Lloyd is set to cut expenses by $1 billion over the next 18 months, according to CEO Rolf Habben Jansen. Speaking at the company&rsquo s annual general meeting yesterday, Jansen said the cost-cutting initiative will involve a range of measures, starting in the second quarter of this year. One obvious saving opportunity lies in vessel procurement&mdash opting for ships from YZJ instead of Hanhwa Ocean could alone trim over $200 million from the bill.
