x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	DBS expected to deliver promising 4Q results despite headwinds: UOB 07/02/19, 11:12 am SINGAPORE (Feb 7): DBS will be announcing its 4Q18 and FY18 earning on Feb 18. UOB Kay Hian is forecasting 4Q18 net profit to increase 8.0% y-o-y to $1.29 billion. In a Thursday report, analyst Jonathan Koh says, &ldquo We expect double-digit growth in net interest income of 10.1% y-o-y, which offsets the decline in contributions from wealth management fees (-3.1% y-o-y) and net trading income (-47.4% y-o-y).&rdquo The research house is keeping its &ldquo buy&rdquo call on DBS with a target price of $28.50. Loan growth is expected to grow by 6.6% y-o-y in 4Q18, in line with toned down guidance of 6-7% for FY18. &ldquo We expect continued but gradual NIM expansion of 1 basis point (bp) q-o-q to 1.87% in 4Q18 due to DBS&rsquo s strong deposit franchise for the Singapore dollar,&rdquo says Koh. And analysts expect the three local banks to continue to experience slow and steady growth this year and into 2020, global financial crises notwithstanding. In a recent interview with  The Edge Singapore, Harsh Modi, banking analyst at JPMorgan for Southeast Asia, indicated that Singapore banks stood out as the most visible in terms of margins and loan growth. &ldquo We hosted 12 banks across Asean recently and most of the discussions [revolved] around the outlook for 2019. For Singapore banks, the key message is of reasonably high confidence on margins, but [loan] volume growth is going to be a bit slower,&rdquo says Mod who indicated that Singapore banks stood out as the most visible in terms of margins and loan growth. As yield plays, the banks&rsquo dividend yields will be measured against the yield of 10-year Singapore government securities, and not against the trend of Sibor/SOR. Yields on 10-year SGS are relatively stable at 2.2%. &ldquo As domestic interest rates go up, the local banks end up repricing loans faster than deposits, and margins tend to move [up],&rdquo Modi says. Since DBS has 90% of its deposits in Singapore dollar CASA (the highest among the local banks), and its loan-to-deposit ratio is 89% (also the highest among the banks), it offers the best combination for higher NIM, according to Modi. The general view is that banks can maintain their current levels of dividends, given that interest rates are going up, return on equity is rising and growth is slowing down. ( before mkt opens) ...this is closed to 5% dividend base on a price of 24.20 ( $1.20 dividend a year) .....certainly NO funds wld skip this offer. ( esp a blue chip like DBS) Further doubt any current shareholder will be selling off.......seem like DBS has ONLY one way up fm here. Pls dyodd. Happy investing.
