Agree, they have the full suit of an exprienced operator in the region. Also, payback for war crime atrocities when they occupied Malaysia & Singapore. Looks good for GS with improved earnings in Singapore. |

wah sien i let go at 0.98.......must jump back in.   only 2 intergrated resorts worldwide GenS and MBS so looks like the probability that 1 of them get awarded is 50/50.   Las Vegas all only hotel and casino operators...no experience running IR' s which Japan is likely direction that they want to go. |

Can' t deny though  that the force and momentum is with this counter.  But, I suspect things are no longer within the company' s own control, as the Japan card is too strong and compelling, and the approval for Japan casinos has cleared so many hurdles and now rests with the LDP controlled Upper House.  Passage through the other levels like the House Committee/Panel, Cabinet, Lower House etc has been rather smooth sailing.  Correct me if I' m mistaken, but once this Bill is passed, then the rest could be regulatory and administrative in nature, like what curbs and controls to put in?  If so, then which better IRs to admit than LVS and GENS as they are already familiar with how to implement the casino controls and restrictions.  Recall that Japan was also studying the Singapore model closely recently, and may even have visited RWS?  Anyone recall?

The beauty of Japan, is that there are multiple cities and multiple regions, and I suspect there will be multiple casinos in multiple cities, so lots to go around to share the joy and a lot of international casino players can get their hands on licences (eventually).

Japantoday.comJapan' s lower house passes long-awaited casino bill Japan has long been viewed as a massive gaming market due to its wealthy population, close proximity to China and appetite for other forms of legal gambling AFP
TOKYO &mdash The lower house of the Diet on Tuesday passed a long-awaited bill to legalise casinos, in a major step toward opening up a market seen as a potential global gaming powerhouse. Some opposition members walked out of the chamber before the vote to protest the bill, which comes after years of delays over worries about gambling addiction and organised crime getting involved in the casino market. &ldquo The bill passed through the chamber and will be sent to the upper house later today,&rdquo a parliamentary spokeswoman said. The proposed legislation is all but assured to get through the upper house, which is also controlled by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The LDP is expected to try get to the bill passed quickly before the current parliamentary session ends on Dec 14.

The Japan Times:-Lawmakers aim to enact bill to legalize casinos by Dec. 14by Reiji YoshidaStaff Writer
The ruling Liberal Democratic Party resumed on Wednesday Lower House committee deliberations on a long-stalled bill to legalize casinos, with key LDP executives saying the party will try to enact the controversial legislation by Dec. 14. Liberal Democratic Party Diet affairs chief Wataru Takeshita reportedly told junior coalition partner Komeito that the LDP wants to have the bill pass through the committee Friday and voted on during a plenary session of the chamber on Dec. 6. Many Komeito members had in the past been reluctant to enact the legislation amid public concern over the possibility of increased gambling addiction and crimes traditionally linked to casinos, including money-laundering. Wednesday&rsquo s resumption of deliberations saw only minimal opposition when Komeito lawmakers held a meeting to discuss the issue, according to a lawmaker with the party who attended the session. Still, given the tight deliberations schedule at the Diet, it remains unclear if the bill will be enacted by the session&rsquo s Dec. 14 close. &ldquo We do not plan to scrap the bill for now. So it is only natural for us to try to enact the bill by the end of the session,&rdquo LDP Secretary-General Toshihiro Nikai told a news conference Tuesday. The Democratic Party, the largest opposition force, boycotted Wednesday&rsquo s session of the Lower House Cabinet Committee. The absence, though, failed to stop the LDP from kicking off the committee session on restarting deliberations on the bill. The legislation was initially submitted to the Diet in 2013 by a bipartisan group of lawmakers headed by LDP Executive Council Chairman Hiroyuki Hosoda. The lawmakers argue the bill is more about allowing for the building of &ldquo integrated resorts,&rdquo not just casinos. An IR refers to a complex facility that integrates establishments such as hotels, convention centers, theaters and casinos, according to the lawmakers. The bill has been widely dubbed the &ldquo Casino bill,&rdquo but the lawmakers insist it should be called the &ldquo IR bill,&rdquo an apparent effort to circumnavigate the negative image associated with gambling. &ldquo We are not thinking at all about creating casinos alone. We are thinking of complex entertainment facilities,&rdquo argued LDP lawmaker Takeshi Iwaya during Wednesday&rsquo s committee session at the Lower House. During the session, Hosoda cited four factors that would benefit the nation if the bill is passed: a boom in construction, more jobs, a boost in the number of overseas tourists visiting Japan and increased tax revenue for local and the central governments. &ldquo The economic effects will spread to areas even outside those where IRs are located,&rdquo Hosoda said
