Markets to cheong on Monday? ................................. Trump predicts ' very good chance' of China trade deal 2 hrs ago President Donald Trump expressed optimism on a trade deal with China, after meeting with Chinese Vice Premier Liu He in the Oval Office on Friday afternoon. " I think we both feel there' s a very good chance the deal will happen," Trump said, adding that the group of negotiators has " been making a lot of progress." Trump said he plans to meet with President Xi Jinping to work out the final details of a deal " fairly soon," and those conversations are likely to take place at Mar-a-Lago next month. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin noted that Liu He and his team had agreed to extend their trip for an additional two days as negotiations continue ahead of the March 1 deadline. The vice premier expressed similar optimism, saying through a translator, " We believe that it is very likely that it will happen and we hope that ... we' ll have a deal. ... The Chinese side is ready to make our ultimate effort." " If I see progress being made, substantial progress being made, it would not be inappropriate to extend that deadline," Trump said, suggesting that he " would be inclined" to allow up to a month longer for negotiations. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/trump-predicts-very-good-chance-of-china-trade-deal/ar-BBTXHYs |

" Tis something lingering on my mind for a long time.  Is the remisier really bsolete?  There must be many retailers out there who hold a fulltime day office job.  If they don' t have a remisier, they can only make use of the office computer to place an online order?  Is this legal, not to mention that in the public sector (as I understand it) personal internet access on office computers have already been disabled?  So, next thing is use a mobile device.  But is this ' stealing' too much office time n/or creating too much distraction from work?  One may argue that calling remisiers is also a ' sin' .  But this latter has been in practice since day one n arguably is less distractive n takes up less office time than having a mobile device in one' s hand.  So, can the remisier be completely dispensed with?  I don' t know.

The Dodo bird is a long extinct flightless bird..... meaning property agents, remisers might go the dinosaur way, as they are other options e.g. DIY buying / selling, online trading, etc.

IMHO, remisiers, insurance agents and property agents should have gone the way of the Dodo Bird a decade ago.............. ![]() ![]() 2/21/2019 DBS drops bombshell on remisiersYesterday Business Times asked DBS if it was planning to close down its stockbroking arm. DBS replied that it would hold a townhall meeting with the remisiers on its restructuring plan. Last night the DBSVickers remisiers were told that they could not continue with their stockbroking business and the bank would explore ways to redeploy them based on their qualifications and experience as well as age, subject to the bank' s policy on hiring older employees, market practices and MOM regulations on retirement age. Their businesses and clients will be taken over by the bank. Many remisiers were in shock and disbelief with this bombshell coming immediately after the Chinese New Year festivities.  Many have spent 20 or more years with the DBSVickers. With many remisiers quite senior in age and having been in the stockbroking business most of their lives, it is unlikely that they could find suitable jobs with the bank with comparable income. The younger remisiers are very concerned as they have young children to feed and their livelihood is likely to be adversely affected, rice bowl broken. The remisiers are now pondering over their next move over this financial crisis in their lives. With the difficulties in finding another job, the older remisiers can forget about this option and join the statistics as retirees and not add to the list of the unemployed. The situation for the younger remisiers is just as bleak unless the bank could find them alternative employment with equivalent income. This is looking like a fire that has just started in the industry and the fear is that other banks or broking houses could follow suit and the problem could spiral into something beyond recognition. The coming GE could have another hot issue to blow hot and cold about. Hard times are here for the stockbroking industry, the remisiers and supporting staff. How would this add to the pool of the unemployed PMETs in Singapore? Wonder what is the position of MAS and the govt with this announcement? http://mysingaporenews.blogspot.com/2019/02/dbs-drops-bombshell-on-remisiers.html |

Bloomberg Live! TV now reporting negatively on both OCBC and UOB results as well as the road ahead for them.  In the end, DBS and Gupta are the most business savvy pair as always. |

Correct. DBSV has been losing retail customers bcos most chose to trade in those foreign online platforms that charge peanuts in fees and commissions.  When they called me for surveys, I complained strongly to them abt their high commissions/fees. They also have this custodian fee for each foreign counter that compels me to clock a certain number of trades otherwise need to pay huge custodian fee. Presently, they have this Cash Upfront Account which is weirdly under DBS/POSB and is separate fm the DBSV account.

Depends on how everything is handled.    The resistance to change ship just got lower for  the Remisers  under the current situation.  IMO.
