For non-professional investors, buy and hold works best. For professional investors, it `only` works for 98% of people.

The Buffett&rsquo s and Soros&rsquo have shown they can market time. They are exceptions to the rule.

There are many reasons why it works sense to buy and hold. Some are obvious and some aren&rsquo t:

• Time is money. Market timing takes a lot of research. So even if you join the 2% who beat markets, it isn&rsquo t good enough to beat markets by 0.1%.I suspect that out of the 2% that beat markets, at least 20% of them are barely beating the market in return for their hours of research
• There are too many known unknowns
• And known unknowns
• Look at ZTE and several other examples of things we couldn&rsquo t see coming.
• Look at how markets reacted positively to Trump! Most market timers didn&rsquo t see that coming
• The costs of trading are sometimes high
• The tax implications of buying and selling can be high, as capital gains is often due
• If you do beat markets over 10 years, often egos grow, and over performance isn&rsquo t sustained
