x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Suddenly this morning all the reports and analysts in all news networks are all screamimg a return to booming economy and contiuning Bullrun after China released 2 key economic data:    " Official China Manufacturing and Non-Manufacturing Purchasing Manager Indexes (PMI) for March comfortably beat forecasts. Manufacturing PMI leapt to 50.5 versus 49.5 expected, and Non-Manufacturing rose to 54.8 versus 54.0 expected. The manufacturing print, in particular, will go a long way to allaying slowdown fears about China, at least in the short-term as the US-China trade talks move back to Washington this Wednesday."   " China& rsquo s manufacturing activity posted its first growth in four months since November, with employment expanding for the first time in over five years, a Caixin survey showed Monday.  The Caixin China General Manufacturing Purchasing Managers& rsquo Index (PMI), which gives an independent snapshot of operating conditions in the manufacturing sector, rose to 50.8 in March after  contracting  for three straight months. The reading hasn& rsquo t been this high since July."

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	totally agree. will like to add though  if you studied the cmfas regulations in singapore along with the tight requirement on basel etc going around. comparatively to other national banks. we are still okay. but your concerns are totally valid. [quite a lot of my banking friends have low trust in the general system as we went through the GFC once and things still look bad with QEe having extended too long becoming an addiction which is hard to cure - see the recent re-drawing of plot curve] which is why sdic insuring of up to sgd $75000 to me is insufficient. should and must go to $1 to $1 to show of confidence to the general populace. afterall those who banked with the banks are not taking the risk and should not be subjected to it when the bank - (bankrun or collapse) [depositors of all class - under the bridge type or not] trust me when I say that if and when there is a systemic reset to the economy, the hardest hit will still be the under the bridge kind. With those who are richer, they show of confidence may actually lubricate the micro-economy in event of systemic reset. it is about confidence (not that it matters if $1 to $1 if economy has a systemic reset) but at least show the confidence to match $1 insuredto $1 deposited. Next a shout out to hai si lang lukewong82.  Noting that he/she is a very relatively new poster who did much rah-rah in some counters with similar posting to that of one forummer known as [danger]. I opine that his/her operandi modulus being rah -rah and bombard with relatively weak information over length of time in forummer to brainwash (aka garner attention] then subsequently take profit and run away (essentially) washing his hands off once his target is achieved. while i respect the admin, I have little respect for this kind of forummer who adds zero to no value and using us as a tool with no value-adding to the general investing community. p.s. karma goes around comes around luke aka danger. pasttime      ( Date: 30-Mar-2019 21:56) Posted: if dbs do well. so good.i wish her well. small vested interest. yet i raised points to highlight risk not to stop her endeavour but for her to raise counter measures to manage the risk. banking traditionally is take deposit, loan money, collect loan. provide for some bad loan.until money collect back it is not a profit (but mostly reported already) in a  country that has bad track record of banks making money.i view it as high risk.  a large number of customers is nothing until one can monetised them. if not they are just accounts that needs money to maintain. remember posb charge $2 every month for low deposit accounts. the pro about professional managers are one can get some of the best. the downside is these are constantly  force to perform and some times take additional risk to perform. can perform, winners take it all. cannot perform exit and take some profit also. shareholders. unfortunate.    banks needs to be prudent, extra prudent and more more prudent cause bank is dealing with public money. at least one should ensure that new setup in another country if gone case will not expand and affect other country profitability. there is no posb to buy to bump up cash base already if things go bad.

But for all real investors here in this DBS thread, the only thing that matters is the bank' s Continuing Profitablity going forward.    Whatever changes they make to their DBS Vickers, their staff, their new businesses, their expansions, their investments, their CEO salary, etc, etc, etc --- these matters only to individuals who are directly afftected ---- but to Investors, we' re only interested if whatever they do makes the bank More Profits.    And I have full confidence in their Management and staff and everyone else who has a hand in DBS to keep making it Fly Even Higher. x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Many posters are now voicing concern over the profitability of our banks after reading abt HK' s 3 newly-minted virtual banks. Yet strangely enough, there were posters who painted a picture of doom and gloom for DBS in India when they heard that DBS had opened Digibank there. Digibank India started in 26 Apr 2016 and within 1 year, it had gained 1m customers (DBS news releases 26 Apr 2016 & 8 Jun 2017).  Digital bank is especially lucrative in countries where a huge proportion of population is under-served by physical banks, thus is a godsend for countries such as India.    Notice that the 3 virtual banks in HK are actually established physical banks partnering with a tech company.    I suppose tech companies can try to partner with HK' s tai-yi-long but there chances of getting approved is just about zero.      I' m sure DBS knows very well that digital bank is yet another new lucrative money-making area and will be expanding its Digibank and other digital initiatives to even more countries it operates in.  DBS has the capacity to tap on the resources of the nation and the brain-power behind not only the private sector but also the public sector and govt.  So far, DBS is going alone in setting up it' s Digibank without partnering any tech company.  But, it has also been collaborating with many tech companies as well to get a piece of their profits. Just not setting up a digital bank with tech companies so as not to erode it' s own pie. DBS  had also stated it' s not interested in getting a virtual bank license in HK (SCMP news 16 Jul 2018).
