 Alert Admin 		Not sure if u guys already mentioned. But airtel Q2 results were good. profits increase by 89% when compared with corresponding quarter of last year. Shares of airtel also all time high. Overseas venture flying. Now await roaming revenue from local services, 3 months had past since we opened up, hopefully some uptick in profits in these areas. High chance singtel can hit interim high of 2.7 if dividends for 1/2 year is 6 cents. Well we will see. Any dividends is good at the moment. Fingers crossed. All the best.

Singtel valuation is lower than SOTP. So it makes sense to raise equity at the subsidiary level (eg India and this case Philippines), but not at holding level.

Singtel' s Philippine associate raises $410.6 mil in rights offer
 
Globe Telecom, the Philippine associate of SGX-listed Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel), has raised gross proceeds of 17.0 billion pesos ($410.6 million) through its rights offer.
 
In its statement dated Oct 28, Globe says it has formally listed 10.12 million common shares to shareholders that participated in the rights offer, pricing the shares at 1,680 pesos apiece.
 
The offer marks Globe&rsquo s return to equity capital markets after two decades since it last raised equity from its shareholders.
 
The offer was said to be oversubscribed. All the rights shares were fully allocated to Globe&rsquo s existing shareholders.
 
According to Globe, proceeds from the offer will be used to partly fund capital expenditures (capex) and pay the company&rsquo s short term debt obligations.
 
It will also enable the company to further expand its digital ecosystem and differentiate itself in the market as it capitalises on opportunities in and beyond telecommunications.

 Alert Admin 		What Can We Tell From Singapore Telecommunications' ROCE Trend?

We are a bit worried about the trend of returns on capital at Singapore Telecommunications. About five years ago, returns on capital were 7.1%, however they're now substantially lower than that as we saw above. And on the capital employed front, the business is utilizing roughly the same amount of capital as it was back then. Since returns are falling and the business has the same amount of assets employed, this can suggest it's a mature business that hasn't had much growth in the last five years. So because these trends aren't typically conducive to creating a multi-bagger, we wouldn't hold our breath on Singapore Telecommunications becoming one if things continue as they have.

The Bottom Line On Singapore Telecommunications' ROCE

In summary, it's unfortunate that Singapore Telecommunications is generating lower returns from the same amount of capital. Investors haven't taken kindly to these developments, since the stock has declined 17% from where it was five years ago. With underlying trends that aren't great in these areas, we'd consider looking elsewhere.
