for the spokesperson to say " setback" it must has a bearing on their biz. Let' s hope they can sort it out with the CAAC.  usually is bi-lateral issue just like visa ....  it is not just from SG to CH ... the number of travellers from CH are many  many tour agencies are using chinese airlines instead of SIA 😩

Maybe the pie to Chengdu and Chongqing had shrinked.  So they let their local carrier have the pie.  lol

I'm out. Smell sth amiss. China is a major route ... spokesperson said "setback". Sure is
Patel explained: ?While the regulatory approval process is a setback for SIA, this could be a temporary issue that they need to sort with the CAAC as these destinations play a strategic role with Chinese overall traffic mix, and connectivity within SIA?s global network.? THE STRAITS TIMES |

SINGAPORE - Singapore Airlines (SIA) will suspend flights to Chengdu and Chongqing from March 31, less than five months after flights to the two Chinese cities resumed. In response to queries, a SIA spokesman said the suspension is due to regulatory reasons, without elaborating further, including on the length of suspension. The flag carrier currently operates  daily flights to Chengdu, and thrice-weekly flights to Chongqing,  said the spokesman.

I was told SIA is debt laden and convertible bonds might be the drag more than SouthWest issues. Plus the competition that is cutting into their profits  Many analysts are opine to stay out ... it is going through a tunnel and does not have the thrust to move up dyodd   |

SouthWest Airlines expected lower revenue in the coming months and its price dropped more than 14% last week, the most in the last 4 years.  One of the reasons is because the SouthWest fleet are 100% Boeing jets.  As a result,    the US DOW Airline Index dropped about 5%,  cutting below 200MAs and turning bearish all of a sudden.    This has affected the stock price of other Airlines including SIA.  Now that SouthWest price has recovered slightly this week,  we see the DOW index also recovered with price not only breaking up the 200 MA but also the 20 MA,  ready to resume its climb again.    We expect the SIA price to follow up.

Analyst are not negative on this counter but they are professionals that knows SIA need 12-13 years to pay off covid debt if the profit maintains at current rate for the next 12 years.
