x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Ya.They totally have no job commitment now and still got pay.. Their salary actually are so higher than other sectors.. Government and shareholders supporting them.. Now the news out and they start moaning about the 10% paycut..I damn red eye actually. x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	SIA cuts all rank-and-file staff' s pay by 10%, in talks with unions on more measures THU, JUL 30, 2020 - 4:27 PM SINGAPORE Airlines (SIA) has implemented more measures to slash costs, including bigger pay cuts for the bosses, a 10 per cent salary reduction for other employees, and early retirement for pilots and ground staff,  The Business Times  understands. Given the first-quarter operating loss for the flag carrier and its regional full-service arm SilkAir, the full quantum of the monthly variable component of salaries will be cut with effect from Aug 1, in accordance with the group&rsquo s collective agreements with its unions. This amounts to 10 per cent of the basic salary for all staff below the level of manager, said chief executive officer (CEO) Goh Choon Phong in a memo to staff this week. Meanwhile, all staff at the rank of manager and above will get increased cuts on their basic salaries starting Aug 1. Managers and senior managers will see a 12 per cent reduction, up from 10 per cent previously. Vice-presidents (VPs) and divisional VPs will see a 15 per cent cut, up from 12 per cent. Senior VPs will take a 25 per cent decrease, up from 20 per cent previously, while executive VPs will take a 30 per cent cut, up from 25 per cent. The CEO&rsquo s salary will be slashed by 35 per cent, up from 30 per cent. The company will also offer a Covid-19 special early retirement scheme for all ground staff and pilots next week. This scheme will be available to those aged 50 and above, with at least 15 years of service, and up to the level of divisional VP. Applications for early retirement will be subject to approval based on organisational and operational requirements. The human resources will provide more details &ldquo shortly&rdquo , Mr Goh wrote. Additional staff measures are also coming, given the slower growth trajectory and depressed market conditions. Mr Goh said SIA will be engaging its staff unions on this matter and will announce the measures when they have been firmed up. Not anytime soon. Air lines may be cheap but cheap can be cheaper still over time as long as the virus spread does not dissipate. I have already projected at least 350K daily infection globally from next month onwards and may get out of control mirroring the 1918 to 1920 (2 years period) Spanish Flu which enough to stop air travel for next few months. So lets see how long SIA can withstand the Covid 19 impact before finding ways to cut costs. Fyi, I have just cut losses on my SIA shares. Very painful to have lost 100K. Sometimes, you lose, sometimes you win. This is part and parcel of an investprs' life!! Even the great legend Warren Buffet cut lossess on 4 of his airline stocks and lost at least US$50 billion.

They cited SIA only 6 out of 9 directors took up the rights n 1 took up bond. Previous reports also claimed CEO Goh did not take up the bond issue. It is dissapointing for many shareholders when they learned about this when much publicity and extensive media coverage on its merits. It also showed lack of confidence from directors and CEO of SIA. SGX should emulate from London Stock Exchange tat directors of listed companies should at least indicate their interest or not in a cash raising event to ensure a responsible and ethical boards and better comm with public CEO also need to be a great communicator.  From reports and ex-SIA staff, CEO GOH, a scholar  was a high flyer promoted from VP, SVP to CEO,  But his  relationship with subordinates, vendors etc ' very cold' ..When there is a ' wall' betwn employees ,vendors  , shareholders etc how could a CEO lead, especially during this bad times!
